i started it up late yesterday afternoon before I left work and it seemed to be running fine so i took it up the street and it sounded like an exhaust leak and took forever to boost up and wouldnt go over 15psi. Turned around came back to my shop and let it idle for a min. Phil was looking under the hood and said it sounds like the turbo. The turbo sounded like the prop was broke and rattling around in there. So i took the boost tube off coming from the turbo outlet to the ic and no oil.....????? engine seems to run smooth now untill i put it in drive and go.

Oh man you brought back memories with that description. My first Dmax broke it's crank and sounded like that.

When my second Dmax blew two holes in the block there was no warning at all.

Nick

Why do these duramax motors fall apart? My money pit 05 is back in the shop, something broke inside the motor, it was burning a gallon of oil every 30 minutes after it started knocking, probably blowing it all up into the turbo probably blowby.

I have a set of heads, a turbo, rocker arms, exhaust manifolds, flywheel, all from an lmm with 80k miles on everything. Am willing to trade everything including my engine. Trying to use what i can to make a deal and get my truck back on the road. Dont have time to fix it and would rather swap it out and let someone else tare it apart and fix whats wrong with it and then they can resale the engine. just a thought!:baby:

?????

Could this possibly be the oil pump? When I start the truck up cold it has pressure and sounds fine. After taking it up the road and driving it oil pressure drops and thats when the rattling sounds start happening. also the oil shows to be a little overfull....hmmm

Showing over full sure you don't have some fuel mixed it or coolant? We had a oil pump on a 02 LB7 spin the gear on the shaft but that was a non oem replacement pump. The more you keep starting this truck up the more your going to hurt parts.

well its a long story! haha! they guy did a "rebuild" and has done nothing but ruin this engine. my truck has been back and forth to his shop for about a year and 1/2. Everytime it comes back worse than before. From a simple coolant leak to the outside is now a useless engine. This has been a lesson learned on my part. Someone that knows what they are doing might get a good deal on this truck because I don't have the means to pay someone to fix it now that I have paid him to tare it up. or the truck is going to be sitting for a while. Ill tell you one thing though, no one will touch my truck again unless they were refered from this site and they know what they are doing. I have thrown alot of money away to this guy.

To anyone who actually cares....haha! I found a motor with 70k miles on it and its going in next week. I'm tired of trying to find out what this guy did to my engine so im pulling it out and its going in as a core. Hopefully the beast will be disturbing the peace once again pretty soon. And thanks to all the guys who take time to throw some info my way during this battle.

Durallymax has a great writeup in the DIY section about pulling an LB7...

Good luck with the swap.
