I went to the track on Wednesday and broke the truck. Didn't know what it was but got the news today was the output shaft. I know at my powerlevel this doesn't happen very often just wanted to know if it's anything I did
Guess it's time for a billet one huh?
You can heat treat the stock output shaft to substantially increase it's strength.
Is this the same guy that built your transmission? I might find someone else to build mine. I'm not saying they can't break, but I ran very deep into the 11s with a stock output at almost full weight without any issues. Unless you and the other two guys he has seen break are running some serious power, I would suspect something else is going on.Yea I the fella at the tranny shop said this is the third one he has seen go since he has been building them

kinda feel the same way
Not with the machined void behind the threads. Can't happen. Go take a look.

What else could cause this other than just a hard launch ??
It's called fatigue failure. Happens to axle shafts in the 4 wheeling world all the time. The shaft wasn't fine and then all of a sudden you broke it. Most likely you have been repeatedly stressing it to or near it's yield point. Eventually, a fracture forms, and that's all she wrote.
I don't know how it could be screwed up, but I was just saying I haven't heard of many breaking. If this guy says he's seen 3 in transmissions he's built, maybe he's doing something wrong. I wouldn't think a truck under 700 HP would break an output shaft. What else could cause this other than just a hard launch ??

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying? Do you mean the fillet between the threads and the splines?
