After Thanksgiving at Glamis my front diff was clunking in 4WD .

Finally took it apart today . Front Dana70HD high pinion Reverse cut R&P 41-8 5:13's

There was some real carnage going on in there . Pinion gear is trashed .

Looks like I hurt it in reverse . Teeth are knocked off from coast side towards drive side . Once the first one went it was a chain reaction from misalignment . The ring gear was hammering pinion and basically destroyed it . Ordered new R&P and carrier & pinion bearings . Should be here tomorrow .

I have done that before but it was a dana 30 in a Jeep. I learned the hard way that a Jeep was not meant to pull out a motorhome in the sand. I sheared 3 or 4 whole teeth off the ring gear on the front diff. Lesson learned. I can't imagine what it took to break a 70.

Damn low quality parts nowadays. That's Bullshit.

Thats how I felt when I saw it . Looked in there and said Holy Chit .

The pinion gear is tore up bad . The ring gear looks good in comparison .

I guess I will try to be easier on it in reverse .

Either it was reverse , or it was the sand drags in 2WD with the front hubs locked that caused it . Broke from the coast side towards the drive side of the gear . I didnt expect to see so much carnage .

All the parts are hear , just need to tear it down and install .
