Brake Upgrades

I think it might be a good time to upgrade my brakes. My truck was taking longer to stop with just the twins. With a built motor going in soon, I think I might have a little harder time stopping. :D I am not sure what route to take. I have seen some brake systems going from 3K to 8K. :spit:I don't want to spend that much. Who has upgraded their brakes? Did you just upgrade the caliper? Front and/or Back? Did you go with different size rotors?

My boss did the SSBC big brake kit and said it was like night and day. They have a few different systems ranging from calipers and pad upgrades to the full all out big brake kit.

no problem. what's funny is i think alot of people overlook them for some reason. Idk if it's because of price or if it's just something that isn't thought of.

I did rotors, pads & brake lines. It stops fine.
At $1000 a set for calipers was a bit much out of the budget for me running stock height. Maybe if I had a lift & some big wheels/tires.

I did Standard Size R1 Concepts drilled/slotted rotors with Posi-Quiet Ceramic pads.

Stops alot better than OEM parts.
Going to upgrade to SS lines soon too.

I never had a problem with the stock brakes.

Im worried about spending all that money and having to deal with brake dust, and I honestly just would rather allocate that money to other projects, I think stock brakes work pretty well, granted I have 35's now, so I just tailgate a-holes a little less.

Anyone have the EBC pads and rotors on?

I've never tried them personally, but friends that have tried them have never had good things to say. However, these are for street cars and track cars. Never knew anyone that tried their truck compounds.

On our Tahoe, I replaced the OEM pads with Hawk LTS pads. I was very impressed. Stopping power and brake feel was greatly improved. The downsides were that the LTS pads dusted much worse than stock and there is some slight squeal at low speeds when the pads are warm.

I liked the LTS pads so much on the Tahoe that I bought a set for the LMM already.

I've been very impressed with Hawk pads overall. I use HPS pads in our street cars (Miata and Protege 5). I also use them in my track car. I used to run Hawk Blue race pads, and I'm hoping to try Hawk DTC70 pads later this year. So I'm a little biased towards Hawk brand pads.

I did try PFC Z rated pads on the P5 and they were terrible. I would certainly not suggest that compound, although PFC makes awesome race pads. Not sure what the deal was with their street pads.

Too bad Cobalt doesn't make truck pads. Their track pads are killer, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a set if they made truck pads.

MIne have been on for almost 3 weeks now and not a single spec of dust has been made. Kinda strange but I like it.

2 different trucks now and I seem to get cracks in the stock pads.... right between the two points of attachment from the pad to the backing. Switching to aftermarket pads stop this problem??

Heard a lot of good things about hawk stuff, might be worth trying.

i have used the Hawk Super Duty pads on the front of a lifted and heavy Sierra and they stop great, last a long time, but they do produce enough dust to warrant washing the rims every week. the Posi-quiet pads on the rear do squeel a bit once in a while but hardly produce any dust and also last quite a while when the caliper slides are properly taken care of.

i was going to try EBC yellowstuff pads on all 4 corners on my truck starting this summer with stock rotors and SS lines, ill report back when ive put them to the test.

Ive had Hawk LTS on the truck for a couple years now. Dust isn't bad, probably have to clean the wheels monthly maybe sooner if your really anal about your truck.
The powerslot rotors are holding up alot better than the factory rotors in the salt.

I called SSBC up and they said about 1G for the front and another grand for the back without the rotors. :( I am probally going to wait, and see what happens at the track this year.

SSBC uses Hawk pads on most of their truck kits. They have their pads and rotors custom made just for them. Most aftermarket brake companies pads and rotors are designed to reduce brake dust.

I've had numerous problems with my stock brakes, everything from the piston breaking apart on both front calipers to the pads cracking to shit. I will be doing their whole kit on my reg cab though.

I am running the yellow stuff pads on the front and Hawk pads on the rear , With slotted and driller rotors on the front and stock on the rear , 2 years now ( no DD recently though  ) and have been very happy with them , braking is good , haven't noticed excess dust but have black rims .
