Im about to fix my fuel problem. Before my cp3 went bad, I had some turbo bark pretty bad. As Russell pointed out this may be why my ihi's weren't lasting. Im going to rebuild and pnp my current ihi while the cp3 is being swapped.
Whats the difference between bark, surge, and letting off too quick? Also would a blow off help with keeping it from barking? Im new to bov and have never messed with them.

Bark/surge is the same thing, and can happen even under throttle if the turbo is set up wrong. A bov will keep it from surging when letting off too fast.

Blow off will cost you around 650 bucks for everything and then uou will have to wire it and tune it for hour application.

I've looked into them having a stick surging can be an issue. If it saves u from tearing up an expensive turbo I'd say money well spent. I just never could find a whole lot about them in diesel applications. Especially standard transmission diesels

I had installed a drive pressure driven BOV on my old setup back in the day. It fixed about 80% of surging/barking issues and worked real slick. However it was very unreliable and actually stuck open once which was the demise of my old s366

You guys make them sound like they are too much of a pain. Why do they require wiring? I have seen a lot of people that have them on their trucks here and am curious how well it worked for them.

They require wiring because the diesel engine doesn't produce vacuum like a gas engine that could be used to signal opening of one. It has to be wired into the throttle position to know that you let off the pedal. Then you have to iron out sensitivity adjustments to make it work for your application.

I've got a friend here in northern Colorado that just took off a 3" hot ic pipe with a bov built into it. I think he's trying to get rid of it. Its off an 05. They sound crazy. Little to ricey for me tho.

Air silencer would help. Had em pneumatic machines at my old work. Just a tube with insolation that threads on.

the turbo smart ones are excellent units works off the tps sensor wiring and fairly easy to dial in will solve turbo bark issue that most people have when letting out of the skinny pedal to fast saves the turbo thrust bearings huge money well spent

I looked at this one on turbo smart and it looks like it would be a pain to install. Does anyone have any experience with this kit? It has a controller as well.

It looks straight forward on the install, the only wire the may be a pain is finding the TPS wire, should be on the backside of the fuel peddle. Haven't made it that far on installing mine.

When I was doing my lag test at 1500rpms locked in 5th gear, I could bark the batmowheel very easily; I actually bark it 15+ times when doing that lag test. From my tow testing on hard acceleration, the batmowheel would bark between the 3-4 shift. You could also hear it wanting to flutter if you accelerated hard up a hill to keep your speed.
I also had to replace two compressor side piston seals after running the wheel the 2 times I installed it.

I was able to bark the TS/Wicked wheel but only 1-2 if I let out of it really quick; it was much harder to do though. All the other wheels I didn't have a problem with turbo bark/surge.

All of this was with my waste gate set at 34-35psi. If I had it turned down I feel it wouldn't bark as early, but I'd have to test to be sure.

As for BOV, I can't be any help being I've not messed with them.

I did notice mine with the wetzel won't bark but it sounds like a flutter or surge if I let off before the1-2 or 2-3 shift.
