Usually my google search skills are good, but I just can't seem to hit it with these things. I keep finding all kinds of other junk.

I just want a good bluetooth radio with an external microphone and a remote control for simple radio functions. Needs to be single DIN.

It will be going in the Kenworth we haul milk with. The cab is very tight and quiet on that truck and the factory sound system is great, so those two aspects are covered. However I would still like to be able to put an external mic closer to the driver as you sit a long ways from the radio, which is also why I would like to find one with a remote. With the seat slid all the way back its nice and comfortable but the radio seems a mile away. We have a shorter driver that sits in it the majority of the time and even though he obviously doesnt sit as far back as me, the shorter arms offset the seat position.

Some of us have headsets but others do not have one but do use the bluetooth in their vehicles. Another issue we run into is the fact that there is a different driver often enough and none of us really live in it so most of us forget our headsets and such.

Anybody have any good suggestions or should I get a radio that doesnt have it built in and add the extra bluetooth box. Don't know much about that but saw it in a few places.

Do not need fancy wallpapers on the screen, want a simple solution please.

Below is a replica of what our interior is like. Shows the radios placement. I do not know where the best spot would be for the Mic. The dash is too far away as is the sunvisor area. To the left just above the drivers head may work? but I don't know. I suppose I could clip it to the sunvisor surround as well.

I'm kind of partial to Alpine and Pioneer stuff. Go on Crutchfield and you can find exactly what you need in a single DIN radio with bluetooth. Good prices, support, directions, and whatever else you need.

I put a JVC head unit in a Ford Explorer a couple of months ago that sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Single DIN, Bluetooth, external mic, remote control, USB and Aux 1/8" input, CD player, multicolor display, etc. It was purchased from Crutchfield for around $120 with shipping and the installation stuff.

I used to do all pioneer stuff until Sony went through a revitalization and bought a couple of their units get a lot of features for the money and great sound might be worth checking out

Okay reading through a few of the descriptions on the various Alpine, Sony and Pioneer radios that all have integrated bluetooth. It looks like they all include a remote which isn't susprising I guess since it seems they all come with one now. It also looks like they all come with an external microphone.

Prices start around $130 and go up from there. On feature I noticed on many of the Pioneers at a lower price was built in HD radio. I've never used HD radio, I remember it was a big thing for awhile but I don't seem to hear much about it anymore. Is it worth it?

I'm not much for looking through specs, with all of these radios having the basic features I need, is there any one specific brand or model that really seems to stand out? We don't get too crazy with the radio, dad always seems to be listening to AM or the weatherband anyways.

Which is another thing, any of them have weatherband? Wouldn't be the end of the world if they didn't but just curious.

Also does anyone have an opinion on which one holds up to the environment of a semi better? That KW rides like a dream, but its still a big truck and one some of the rougher roads the radio will see plenty of vibrations versus the average passenger car.

I really like having the HD radio built in, you can defiantly hear a difference in sound quality not quite to the extent a HD tv vs standard def. tv is picture quality wise, but its similar. I don't know of many offering the weatherband. With any of these three brands your looking at I would just say go with the best deal, or the one that is easiest to use. If you can find a local car audio shop to go and listen to them thats usually the best bet.

I have he JVC head with BT and HD, but my bluetooth needed a 100 dollar add on piece. the piece was the receiver and mic. Make sure to read the fine print there.... thought i was good to go with bluetooth ready. the unit has been in my truck for 5 years, i push upgraded door speakers and a kicker 10'' with a rockford amp to all speakers. just startin to get ware marks on the controls. for the price I'm satisfied, al in all 250.00 out the door. good luck with the hunt..... truck looks clean, you must have a newer kenny or good drivers

I dont have any part # but i have been a kenwood fan for ever, alpine takes a close second

As for where to mount a mic, maybe at the top of the handle used to enter the cab or make a custom spot on the pillar the handle is mounted to? You could take it off and do a custom blind mount from behind .

Again, as far as holding up and quality of merchandise, i have een a kenwood fan for years, it should handle your semi just fine
