Anybody else get a letter informing them that their policy is going up another 28% next year! I can't believe this, my policy started out at 88 dollars and now for the same policy it is 215.00. I dont go to the doctor, my wife has a policy with her work and my son has his own policy that is also going up 28%. We are healthy, never go to the doctor and dont take any prescription drugs, this is ridiculous. I am paying for everyone else's health insurance now, this has got to stop. Am I all alone or did any of you guys get notices about a rate increase? I'm about to say f it and drop mine, between my son and I, I'm paying 5,916.00 a year for absolutely nothing....

BCBS kept increasing too much each year so the firm I work for switched to United Healthcare. It's been cheaper and less increases but I totally understand what you're saying - it sucks that we're paying for all the other members who are using the insurance.

I'd sure rather have ins. and not need it than need it and not have it. If I were uber wealthy I suppose a health savings acct. drawing interest could be better but it's a chance you take on getting in a serious medical condition.

I hear ya...on top of that, medical procedures and costs are so astronomical its not like when ya do go to the Dr, the Insurance feels all that helpful... Its expensive! Co-pays add up like a MO-FO! And while 85% coverage is great, that 15% is like WOAH!

But on the flip side, we pay for the day we do need it. I passed a kidney stone, did the whole medical procedure 'N all...before this, I hadn't been to the Dr in 16 years. Well, that procedure cost close to $28,000...I still/only paid $6800...in the last 10 years my insurance coverage has cost roughly $1800 a year...so I paid in $18,000 and used $21,500...I'd say that works well. $28,000 is a drop in the I.V in an operating room...Medical costs are only going up...it sucks, bit it is what it is...

And yes, I have Blue Cross/shield...don't recall getting the notice, probably should start opening some of those envelopes :D

I have a policy for my wife, my son, and I and it costs me over $700 a month (United Health One). When I asked my current employer about their benefits package, they said it was $300 per person per month! That is outrageous! At my last employer, I paid $188 per month and that covered all three of us.

I would much rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it, but damn why does it have to cost so freaking much!

The Health insurance industry is a scam. I refuse to pay the big insurance companies any money. There are alternatives out there. If I need to go to the hospital, Ill make payments.

Scam or not...
Yeah, OK...
That sounds good in theory, but, lets be real here...some of policies cover lost income if your injury and recovery keeps you from making an income. And in a catastrophic incident, that takes your ability to make money to make a payment, that's a nice benifit. Not to mention, God Bless him and his speedy and full recovery, what about an incident like Matt Woretz and his family are going thru...you're looking at a couple hundred thousand dollars for his surgery's, care, meds and follow up therapy for years to come...with ease...not something I want to make unexpected payments on...

I'll pay my insurance like an idiot, thank you very much

Ive never had health insurance. If im in a car wreck my policy is jacked to 500k. Ive paid out of pocket for every doctor visit, and you know whats weird, they give me a discount for NOT having insurance. When I had a kidney stone a few years back, they cut the bill in HALF because I was uninsured. Paid it off in a year with no issues. If its a big bill, Ill send them 100/month forever for all I care.

At least you'd make the payment..
Sounds like you got it figured out..

I never had insurance till my daughter was born, I paid out of pocket as a single 20 something. Kids tend to change this perspective

My wife works at the local hospital here. As of now we are extremely fortunate that our health coverage is only 320 per month for a family of 4. But the real benefit is, so long as we use the hospital doctors, there is no copay and everything is covered 100%. Had 2 kids there, paid not one cent. Get sick, as long as my family doctor is contracted with the hospital it's free too.

So right now I can't complain. My wife wants to quit and be a stay at home mom. That idea got rejected real quick:D

yeah thats worth her staying right there! :D. my wife is a school teacher and has an ok plan. its certainly better than what i could find just for myself. her plan is free to her, we just have to add me to it which is 250 with vision and dental included. with the little one coming, it will jump 75 bucks a month. The nice thing is the school donates 625 every 6 months to a health savings account regardless if we put money in or not. that goes a long ways with a preggo wife :D

You can blame Obamacare and the idiots who made it happen for your rising health insurance costs. The insurance companies that haven't been put out of business don't mind being able to raise their rates because of it

I have to agree with Chris on this one. One reason hospital bills are so expensive is because they play the insurance companies. Also, the price includes the insurance on the care you receive..if that makes sense. A warranty in a way. It is a big convoluted mess however the hospitals and doctors offices are easier to reason with than insurance companies.

There's such a difference between you guys down south and us up here, north of the border.

Curious as to what you guys pay for vehicle insurance and what that covers?

Come dow nto Florida if you want to pay BIG bucks. I have a fairly basic plan and pay $341 a month, and thats pretty cheap actually. My wifes a teacher, and it would cost right at $700 a month to add just me to her policy through work(so much for being a teacher to get benefits and insurance cheap).

My employer has historically had really good coverage at virtually no cost to us. It went up for the first time in a long time last year, then we got hit with the stupid Cadillac tax this year (thanks Obamacare), and it went up so much my employer had to cut coverage AND increase rates

I thought the point of Obamacare was to improve healthcare, yet here it is getting worse and more expensive. Gotta pay for the illegals somehow I guess

I hate how health insurance plays games with us. In the last 5 years, my wife and I have paid over 10k in medical bills out of our pocket and that is not including our hearing aids. What irks me the most is they do not cover hearing aid which is a medical equipment but covers a cochlear implant 100% which is roughly 20k for the surgery while a pair of average quality hearing aids is 5k. It's expensive being deaf, I'll have to shell out 10k for new hearing aids for me and my wife soon, we have to keep replacing them about every 5 years due to wear and tear and technology improvements.

Kat, I may need to call you one day or Pat. We are looking into offering benefits to our employees at the shop but we get quite the run around from companies
