I've never seen issues with the caps they use on surge tanks. Now the older style caps that go on the radiator I've seen cause weird systems. Usually the spring fails and doesn't hold pressure causing the coolant to bleed into the reservoir early and make it seem like its overheating.

Here's a question? What's the pressure of the coolant running through the stock IHI? And does that pressure fluctuate with rpm?

I noticed the feed line for the IHI that I blocked looks like it may be leaking....

Cooling system pressure is usually between 10-16 psi. 16 being on the high side were most caps start bleeding off

It will have 15 psi as the whole coolant system will BUT if you did push a cup or have bad head gaskets whatever cylinder it is leaking to when that cylinder compresses it may shoot 15 30 80 psi or more into the coolant system the size of the leak will determine how much pressure it will letc In.Thats why when head gaskets blow it lets compression Into the coolant system instead of coolant in the oil.MOST OF THE TIME.

The ford that a guy just bought and brought in was blowing bubbles under power braking like a retard in a bathtub. I should have known to walk away right then...

Blk smoke lb7: It's me that posted bad radiator cap pictures.

On the pictures we can clearly see the disloged and expanded seal. My Lly would sometimes get vaccuum in the hose overnight, collapsing it . Combinaison of air in the system and broken cap I guess .

I've gone through two bad expansion tank caps. Go get a new one and see I'd that fixes it. I was scared to death the first time when it stared showing symptoms of bad HG's. or try throwing your current one in the dishwasher

So your bad cap was causing the symptoms?

I've been taking it easy on my truck lately. I did let it eat 35 psi for a bit and didn't seem to lose and coolant. Haven't had anymore problems lately, but I haven't put it on the spiciest tuna yet...

have you really checked over where the waterpump weep hole is? it may be leaking, running down the side and evaping before it every touches the ground. ive had/seen a dmax do that before.

Haven't really checked that out. Because coolant only went missing under high boost and quickly too. I'll just keep taking it easy until she fixes herself haha

well high boost usually means high RPM right? that means that pump is spinning pretty hard and can push past weak seals. its hard to see up there to where it leaks and its right next to the motor. heat soak that aluminum it runs down from a hot day and that water doesnt stand much of a chance to make it down very far for you to see a bunch of drips on the floor.

High rpm doesn't mean high boost all the time. The tune I'm currently on doesn't make near the boost vs rpm that my max effort tune does. I will for sure check that water pump tho.

lol it was a rhetorical question. anyhow, if your on your smaller tune and run it at is "high boost point", it usually means your up in the R's under some power, specially on a big single. unless you like to down hill a bunch using the motor to slow ya :D

I have a 05 lly and my rad hose gets firm and it pushes coolant out of rad. not all the time mostly on cool morn and the heater does not work well on cold morn at when sitting still but works when moving does not overheat with ac going on hot days if coolant level is up. no mods on truck

Mine was going same thing and it was HG's. You may try a new coolant cap, does your overflow look clear, or does it have a back haze to it?

Well, I've been beating on the truck a little and it doesn't seem to be using coolant anymore...could the cooler weather (thermo not opening) or use of the heater be the reason the truck is all good now?
