The other I day Pulled the dipstick with the engine running and noticed I had blow by looking smoke coming out on the dipstick tube. I can take the oil fill cap off and turn it upside down and it stays on for the most part minus the engine vibration. The blow by coming out the oil filler tube puffs.. Last September the dealer did the head gaskets... any input is greatly appreciated thanks! The truck is a 2015 lml with 53,000 miles on it.

How much if any blow by is acceptable in a diesel engine?

you cant measure it by what you see out of a tube. a compression test and leak down test are the closest ways to say if the engine is healthy without tearing it apart.

TX of course
James definitely knows better then I and thise test are the best way to tell. What we use in the excavation industry is. If you could even set the cap down covering the oil fill tube you are fine.

^^Considering how much you know and others, you know what you are looking for and whats acceptable before diving in.

No clue what the new guy knows and looks like he wont be doing any testing himself anyhow. We will be the third wheel on his dealership adventures.

Correct way is a flow meter hooked to the crankcase vent, and measured under rated power. If the GM techs have good connections, they could get numbers they need to look for
