Well, I pumped my first ten gallons into my tank this morning! It's at about a 75-25 ratio now of bio to Dino diesel. Truck runs great, less smoke and quieter. I did notice a bit of a power loss but at a savings of over $70 per fill up how could I complain?! :D

Well first 10 gallons has run through it with no plugged filters or other ill effects. Truck runs excellent on it with only a minor power loss and the exhaust really does smell like a fry kitchen. My favorite part has to be how quiet it made my engine. My lb7 is not much if any louder than my dads Lbz. I barely hear any engine noise even with the radio off and windows up! Seems to idle smoother too and the balance rates went from a couple being +/-2 to all being +/- less than 1 :D :woot: :thumb:

I don't know exactly. I think the oldest stuff has been sitting for at least 4 or 5 months. Maybe longer, I never asked. This last batch I mixed that old oil with the same amount of fresh 2 day old oil and it worked a lot better. As long as the oil is still a thin liquid I don't think it matters much how old it is. Sometimes I run across a jug that has started to congeal and I don't use them. In my limited experience as long as the wvo pours about like motor oil it's fine but if you get some that looks like 140w gear oil stay away from it.

Well I've run about 800 miles and about 30 gallons of biodiesel, I'm sure I am running on 100% biodiesel by now. I just changed the filters on my truck cause it was feeling more sluggish. With new filters it runs like a top. My main complaints are a loss of throttle response and a bit more power loss now that it's 100% bio. If I had to guess I'd say I lost around 50 hp or so. This is just an estimate, I have no proof. My tunes are just each just down a notch. I have tow, Econ, hot Econ, hot street, and race(around 500rwhp). Now my tow feels more like stock, Econ like tow, hot Econ like mild Econ, hot street like hot Econ, and race like hot street. But again, when saving the amount of money I am I could care less :D

Little update to this. After a lot of practice and fine tuning I've finally got the process down. I only spend about an hour a week hands on time with it and easily make 40 gallons a week. In the last roughly 3 months and close to 10k miles I have only run about 60 gallons or 3 tanks of pump diesel. The rest of that milage has been on straight bio. The truck runs great, quieter than ever, balance rates are lower, and with a little cetane boost the power loss is minimal. When it's all said and done I spend somewhere between $1.25 and $1.50 per gallon. I was going through filters pretty quick at first but now that everything's cleaned out and I'm making good fuel they last fine. The filters in my truck have almost 5,000 miles and still seem fine. All in all I'd do it again in a heartbeat, and I actually prefer the bio over pump diesel because of how much smoother and quieter it makes my truck.

Finally calculated my mpg running on bio. I went 300 miles on around 17 gallons. Worked out to exactly 18mpg when I calculated it out. This means that at a cost of $1.25 per gallon for my fuel my fuel cost per mile is just under 7 cents. That's down around what the Prius and Insight hybrids get, but much more fun and less homosexual :D :thumb:

Hey 02, where did you get your info on running the process and what not? my interest have peaked pretty good on this concidering how much diesel is round here and we have a few vats and drums that look damn near like what you have.

My used oil sucks. It's very well used and has lots and lots of flour so mines pretty much worst case scenario. I use 10 gallons of methanol and around 2 to 3 pounds of lye. If you get better oil you can use way less lye and a few gallons less of methanol. I have to process mine twice to get it to work right. I do it with 5 gallons of methanol and about a pound of lye. Then do it again with the rest of the methanol and however much more lye the test says it needs

You're good, works slow here too. I get the lye from eBay believe it or not. I buy it 10 pounds at a time for around $30 free shipping. The methanol I buy from a local petroleum distributor. I buy it by the 5 gallon jug at a time or 55 gallon drum if I can't get the little jugs. It's usually around $3.20 a gallon.

It is nasty and dirty, I'd recommend keeping it outside off of concrete. I have mine on the side of the shop under just a roof with it open on 3 sides and a crushed asphalt floor. It is impossible to make it and not spill any so a dirt, crushed asphalt, or gravel floor is best. Plus it stinks so best to have lots of ventilation. Once you get a rythem going it becomes second nature. I only spend about 3 hours a month total messing with it hands on. But for the first month or so I was spending an hour or so a day on it.

If you do it be sure and add a 2 micron fuel filter. If you look at the top right of my photo you can see I added a Duramax filter head and filter. It goes through a 10 micron goldenrod filter/water block then through the Duramax 2 mic filter/water separator. Once you start making good fuel the filters last forever. At first I was impatient and ruined several filters But The ones on my system are about 2 months old and they're just now starting to flow slower.

I either take it to the county landfill and they dispose of it somehow or I dump it in the restaurants used oil vat by their dumpster. That's the worst part of the whole deal is getting rid of that sh*t
