I have a 68 billet cheetah with about 30k miles on it and its getting some side to side play in the shaft and its getting close to time to put the truck away for winter, therefore, would anyone happen to know who would re build these kind of turbos? I talked to fleece and their reply was to sell this turbo as is and buy a brand new 68 from them. That isn't really in my future as far as 2500 dollar turbo goes, i was looking for just new bearings and seals in this one. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Also, once the truck is down for the winter it will be getting 45% injectors while it is apart. Also have considered selling this turbo or trading for a billet s468 or s472.

Brian..... It depends on what the end play spec is. If it's more than what the turbo spec calls for, it's not good.

it has zero in and out play but a little side to side but a little more than normal from what im use to being around. For some reason this truck has a lot of turbo bark even in half to 3/4 throttle

you might look it up and try and do it yourself. ive heard of guys doing it themselves and it doesn't sound like it is too bad. but if not, im sure mark and Danville performance can help you or point you to someone who can.

A few people may have seen the crank broke in this truck and have been trying to stay on budget with the build/turbo options.

As of now, i have a billet 68 fleece cheetah, stock housing-not a 4094 housing. I have been talking to Danville and they sell a billet 72mm wheel that is applicable for my turbo, has anyone ever had a 72 stock housing charger? Without anymore work done on the exhaust side or anything? Once again I am not up to date on turbos, so any help is appreciated. I have access to a machine shop to make the cover of the turbo bigger to fit the wheel if i do decide to do this.
Thanks in advance!

You're probably correct now that I see there aren't any 72 stock housing turbos

Unless there is visible contact I would just roll with the turbo. Side to side play is normal, the bearing is loose untill the oil pressure comes up floats the shaft...

When did you purchase this turbo? The Billet 68 has only been available sense spring. Did you purchase it from FPE or an FPE Distributor?

Side to Side play is normal for any journal bearing turbo. Especially if the truck is not running, since it would have no oil pressure to suspend the shaft. You may even be able to force the compressor to touch the cover.

If that is really a FPE Billet 68 VNT, its capable of 800+RWHP. We have had multiple trucks, including customer built trucks do better than 800HP. Seems to me looking at your mod list you need a good set of injectors, at least 60% over stock, in order to really take advantage of that turbo.

By the way, if you talked to someone at Fleece Performance that told you to sell the turbo, rather than offering to go thru it, PM me, email me, or call me please. Its a lot cheaper and easier to just put a set of bearings in a turbo, rather than cleaning up pieces after it failed. Otherwise, if there is more to it than that, I'd like to know as well.

I do not know a certain date purchased, but it was from a distributor. This rig will have 60 overs with dual 85% cp3s.

Also, I would agree that it's easier and cheaper to put bearings in vs. Repair a whole turbo if it blows. I will pm. You info on the rest of the info from the emails
