I have a billet 480 that I've been thinking about using as the top charger in a set of triples. My question is what would the exhaust side need to be? The setup will most likely be 480/472x2.

No matter what exhaust side you go with the truck is going to be laggy. I wouldn't put the S480 in the valley. A S472 with 2 s366's will run 9's and spools nice there is no need for that much air unless your goals a very high.

Maryland Fuel Injection runs a 480/87/.9 with a pair of 472/83/1.0 atmo's on their 6.7 powerstroke and didn't seem to fight spoolup problems. Made 1236 before the oil pump exploded and sent shrapnel through the oil toasting the motor and turbos.

I watched them lose a race last year at MIR because they couldn't get on top of the chargers on the line so..... Either way it doesn't change the fact that there better options that will drive and spool much better that will make plenty of power. I'm sure with where you work you could come up with a few.

I have trip 475's and am fighting spooling them in a bad way,Spoke with Mark last night and a 72 high pressure is a much better option.I couldn't imagine trying to light a 480 without some spool aid.

I agree, it's definitley ovrrkill.

On a side note, they were just running single most of last year. The current triples are all brand new and have only been run on the dyno.

Billet?

Captphil went 10.6x in his truck on tune 2 with a cast 472 and 2 cast 66s. Not to mention they are divided housing bolted to non divided flanges on the hot pipe side. As Evan said, more than enough air.

It depends on the specs of the 480 as to it being ideal for what you want. Wheel and cover change will cost you quite a bit more than 200 bucks. Match your turbos well and you will be very happy. Put on just what is cheap and you can get your hands on and you will be disappointed.

I can buy s400 compressor covers machined whatever size I want for $190. Cast take off wheels for $15. Balancing for another $35. Ok I was a little low... $250 could downsize you.

Just cause you didn't buy $3500 garretts doesn't mean you will be unhappy. I mean at what point do you tell yourself you are unhappy running 9's on a set of inexpensive borg chargers ??

He runs 475 I believe. I'll probably just sell the 80 because it's a 96/132 exhaust so it wouldn't be worth changing wheels and housings.

I've thought about that as well. The goal is to run the truck in the 10.50 index at my local track so I need to be sure I have the air to achieve that.

That would be difficult to do with that combo. At least running a index where you would like to hit that number with repeatable results.
