unfortunately that will also excite bad cab mounts, shocks, bushings, ball joints, front end..etc etc, lol. I was hoping for a way to just check that one part.

that's what I'd read, and I get no feedback in the steering wheel when it clunks, so I dismissed it. My steering is super tight too, so I think that I'd feel it if it was there. I have Kryptonite centerlink, tierods, weld in brace, Henderson super steer, ultimate idler arm, Rare Parts pitman, DHD lower control arm brace, and DHD centerlink brace... so it is pretty damned tight by dmax standards! LOL

Re the part number for Spicer, I'll look. I do recall reading that Spicer, Raybestos, and one other are all the exact same part from the same mfgr.

Doesn't sound like intermediate shaft either but IIRC there only 70 ish bucks... Might be worth swapping just to rule it out. You can grab the steering shaft just above the brake pedal and give it a shake, you shouldn't feel much movement or a clunk if you do the lower steering column bearing is the culprit. I replaced my white one with the green one and put a hose clamp on it.

Thanks, I'll try that after work tomorrow just for shits and giggles.

Me, just tired of "what's in the box" when you purchase parts anymore so my sarcasm is rather high..

Every time you purchase a part online you play "What's In The Box". I bought glow plugs from RockAuto, selected Bosch for a few bucks more. I receive the box with said part and they are clearly etched ACDelco made in Germany.

Sent them back, went down to Oreillys and ordered 8 ACDelco glow plugs, guess what was in the box.? 8 ACDelco glow plugs made in Germany, $4.00 apiece cheaper and a 1 year warranty with no hassle of having to ship back if one went bad, just down the street a few miles...

RockAuto's email response:

Thank you for the email and the clarification.

We called Bosch to get further information about this part number.

Bosch confirmed that they have been reboxing the original equipment ACDelco glow plug as a Bosch part. So, the parts you received are, in fact, the Bosch part. Bosch sources the OE part and sells it under the Bosch brand, with the full Bosch warranty. Current stock will all be the ACDelco part, which is why you received the parts marked as they were.

You are, of course, welcome to return the Bosch glow plugs, if you wish. The return can be completed at the "order status and returns" link at RockAuto.com's home page.

We would be unable, however, to refund any difference between the price for the Bosch glow plugs and those we offer with the ACDelco brand name. The price at which these parts are sold reflects our underlying cost for the particular brand. As these are the parts ordered, we could not cover any shipping expense associated with the return (though a prepaid return shipping label at a discounted cost is available through our website).

Reboxing is actually a very common practice among parts manufacturers, because it allows a given brand - in this case, Bosch - to offer complete coverage of a product line without the attendant expense of producing themselves a part that may not be worth the cost of tooling and production given anticipated sales volume. However, parts sold under a given brand are covered by that brand's warranty. This also means that the parts in the box are considered by Bosch to meet its own standards for quality.

With a manly Yawlp I grabbed a handful of my shaft and shook it joyously as it emitted not one sound of complaint!

well, no such luck in determining through the forums what is unquestionably the strongest testicular joint... so I threw a dart at a board and went with the big green nasty Mevotech http://www2out.rockauto.com/en/parts/mevotech,TXK6693,ball+joint,10070 I'm in no hurry to install them, and they should be here tomorrow night, so I'll try to take some pictures and give some initial commentary on what I think. I'll follow it up as I put miles on. Hopefully they are the toughest SOB's, but if not, the they were at least cheap and I can try again with another brand next time around.

Anyone having a similar problem to this they can't pinpoint, remove your caliper pins and see if they are dry, had the third truck with this issue come to me over the weekend, removed driver's side caliper pins, cleaned them up and greased the bore & pin and slapped it back together.... Noise was gone, customer couldn't believe it, his truck had all new idler, pitman arms, cognito supports, and rare parts tie rods, and all new shocks...he was gonna put 4 ball joints in it because he was so frustrated

good advice! I haven't done that to mine in a while. It could stand to be checked. I just figure after a ton of boosted launches and almost 100k mi with a fabfours bumper and winch... lowers could stand replacement anyway just because :roflmao:
