As someone who owns a LB7, I feel I am missing something. Does the bolt normally go through the rocker cover into the head? And if not, why would this not work (if there was sufficient metal around the stock boss)?

Edit: learned how to use Google, and it does look like the bolt is supposed to go into the head. So yeah, that's a bad idea...

Correct, the rocker housing normally isn't threaded

Why not just put studs there instead?

Studs are plenty strong, especially if you get them 90mm long and run them in to a few mm shy of bottoming out. Next weakest is the hold downs themselves, but once you make them billet I don't see why you'd need bigger bolts?

Or, has someone stretched studs with billet hold downs that I haven't heard of?

I think you missed the point of this post..

The op was poking fun at someone tapping into the lower valve cover. Which does not work

AFAIK nobody has stretched a stud. And the kid that was doing this "mod" has a stock motor with twins, and reused the stock hold downs. I just think he has an extra chromosome.
