My temps like to stay around 195 up to about 98 degrees out side air temp the highest i have ever seen then get is 199 going up the grape vine doing 80 towing my skis about 2000 lbs. I run amsoil and lucas in my motor. I have also always wondered why the 07.5 have two thermostat sensors and why the the 08 and later only have one ?

I believe a little dish soap will do the same thing as water wetter, breaks the surface tension of the water.

yes you can do that but water wetter will not make foam and the soap will.

I have used water wetter in almost all my car/trucks over the years it helped the most in the 1995 6.5L when towing it dropped the temp by 10+ with a 10,000lbs load.

Also in race car/trucks I have ran just water and water wetter and it helped there too.

Anyone look into making the fake hood vents functional to reduce underhood temps? I havent had time
Would it be a low pressure area? and draw air out?

ive tried the water wetter in all of my trucks and havent noticed a diffrence at all. on the 1500silverado 2500HD and my 3500 the temps run pretty much all the same.

Ive seen the exact opposite......I honestly never believed what the bottle said, but

Are you using it with water or water and coolant?

I use straigt water and a full bottle of the diesel WW

I swear by the stuff in my Buick, distilled water and WW and it makes a big diff. I never see over 170 with a 20 year old stock rad. Although I'm going to build an Al one to try and keep it down at 160. I will not run antifreeze in the car. Water has 2.4 times better thermal conductivity IIRC and will not trash your block if a head gasket letts loose like antifreeze will.

What are the thoughts on removing the hood insulation? Any diff. with doing that?

You still have that stuff? I thought you lived in Vegas? I dont even use it here in the great white north:D

I doubt it will make a noticable differnce though

There are a few different ways to help your dmax run cooler Mike, it all depends on how much time/money you want to spend.
Just a couple idea's for you:
-try water wetter
-remove your intercooler and give everything a good cleaning between the rad and IC
-relocate your trans cooler and install a fan
-install an additional remote oil cooler also with a fan
-install a water/air intercooler to get rid of the large heat soaked air/air intercooler you currently have
-more venting in the fenders and removing the inner fenders and hood insulation may help as well

As stated earlier, the gauges aren't all that accurate sometimes and a secondary gauge to confirm temp is never a bad idea.

Surprised Killerbee isnt here proclaming his stuff is the best and to not ask questions and buy it.

Poke fun at whom ever you choose, but until you see how hot the oil is getting, you're doing it blindly...

I dabble in the sandcar world too. One thing that pops up frequently with the Mega HP guys is engine temps with sustained loads. They have an open engine compartment, huge radiators, big fans (plus direct wind), and a lot of them have issues. They'll swap radiators out for thicker cores( or more of them), straight H2O and watter wetter, more fans, electric H2O pumps, various t-stat temps all to no avail. Finally nut up and put an oil cooler on and problems are solved...

Just sayin...:)

Who makes a good oil cooler with a fan for our trucks? I'm not opposed to this idea at all as i frequently hit 220+ in my poor LLY on stock tune with 20k load and outside temps anywhere from 75 - 105*... tried quite a bit of stuff, tuning on up the list - but doesn't seem to be much improvement to be had tuning wise over what i've got with my particular setup. It's 'as good as i can get it' all things considered - so now looking for alternatives. I'd be fine with 200-210* ECT and a load, and slightly higher going up grades - but right now on the flat or gradual rolling country seeing 210* without much problem at 65 - 70 MPH...

Being that you're probably 5k over GCVWR, you might be wanting your cake and to eat it too.. :)

No one sells a kit with a fan, as far as I know. But, Othrgrl put one together for his truck.

KB's kit doesn't use a fan. Unneeded IMO, but you could however probably mounts some small motorcycle radiator fans to it. His cooler is about 7" tall. They would have to be rather shallow, as it has a cross member a bit over 2" behind it.

thoughts on this as an oil cooler? Help or waste?

That ought to do SOMETHING to help out :) My big question is plumbing... how do we plump any of this stuff in? Is there already an oil cooler of some kind and we just get longer hose to re-route it? Doesn't seem there's any factory oil cooling...

Sorry to hi-jack the LMM thread.... figured it was relevant to the conversation though?
