Hey guys! Hoping some of you can chip in opinions here. Got a 2007 Classic Duramax that started showing codes pertaining to the turbo. Took it to a shop and they said the vanes are only opening 75% due to the unison ring on the turbo. Short of it is they are telling me to put in a new turbo. My question is if I’m going to go that route should I replace it with the same style factory turbo? Or is there a better upgrade for a stockish duramax?
Stock trans
EGR delete
5 inch down pipe

Codes were
P003A
P0191
P2563

Thank you!

If your looking to add to the performance there is a few Options. Other wise get a genuine replacement ether new or rebuilt.

What about just cleaning the vanes and ring? I've heard of some spraying penetrating oil into them and manually cycling it a bunch of time to free it up

Years ago I rebuild my turbo myself on my LBZ. Cleaned the unison ring and vanes with scotchbrite pads and it's been fine ever since.

While I had it apart, I had the housing machined to match the downpipe and gasket matched the up pipe ports as well. If you know a guy or capable of doing that yourself, I would recommend. Noticable difference in sound and response.
