Did a search and didn't find anything on this topic. What mpg is everyone getting? Highway, city, and an average. I'll start, I drive about 50 miles everyday. 40 or so on the highway and 10 in the city. I get:
18-19mpg average
21mpg best so far, 500 mile round trip on Interstate cruising 70-80mph. Filled up before leaving and got back with a little under 1/4 tank.
Don't know my city average but I'd guess it to be 15-16. Lets do hand calculated to to keep it fair for us low tech guys without digital displays 

OK, first what is the difference between a town and a city?

I have very good records of my mileage over the last 60,000 miles, so here goes. All hand-calced (well, Microsoft Excel calculated).
My truck weighs right at 8,200 lbs with me in it, stock ride height. 4x4 CCSB. Mileage is with BFG All Terrain 285/75R16 tires on generic aftermarket rims.

  • In town (basically when there are stop signs and stop lights): 14-16 depending on if I want to accelerate slower or faster than everyone else.
  • On the highway: 16-19 depending on how fast I drive. Anything over 75 MPH destroys my mileage.
  • Maybe this is what you meant by "city"? In large metropolitan areas like Phoenix, AZ I tend to get 16-17 on average. But really this is just a mix of city and highway.
Oh, right, I also have a sweet graph of mileage vs. my average speed for that tank of fuel!

Edit:
I also just switched to larger tires: BFG All Terrain 315/70R17 on Hummer H2 rims. I appear to have dropped about 1 MPG across the board.

Oops, in place of town I meant highway. I fixed it! But that's not to bad, I dont actually do it by hand either. Just got an app on my phone called CarLog that does it for me. Pretty nifty

8-24 is the range that I have gotten in the past 3.5 years. Typical highway is around 20-22 and city seems to always be right around 15. typical towing is 9-13. Unless its shorter than the truck then all the way up to 19 is possible with the car trailer. The time I got 8 was a big gooseneck with lots of wind and resistance. The 24 was all flat going 65. On that trip I was pulled over for doing 65 in a 65. Cop must of thought I was transporting something illegal and the flow of traffic was around 70.

around town driving, I get 15-16 depending on how I drive it. Today I made a 200 mile (one way) trip to kentucky, I left town with about a 100 miles of town driving, made to my destination and filled up averaging 16.8. On the way home, cruise set on 75 most of the way, 203 miles on the trip, and 9.8 gal to fill it up when I got gack in town 20.91. My best before that was 18.8:woott:. I am pretty happy with that.

Wherever I am working
I see the same on average. Typically see high 19s on the interstate driving 75 mph. Low 16s in stop and go traffic in the city.

I did, however, on one occasion average 26.886 mpg on a trip from Wichita, KS to Brookings, SD. The best ave. mpg on that trip was just over 28 mpg driving with a tail wind at 72 mph ave over 200 miles. Hand calc.

It's not fair to suggest anything, but due to me driving due north with a very strong tail wind of about 50 mph. LOL. I'll take it though, especially when fuel costs what it does.

Haha yeah I've had my dads DIC up to almost 30 before! His truck does pretty good but not that good, maybe 1 or 2 mpg better than mine. Mainly because he drives like grandpa bob

100% highway at 65mph I have seen 25 (24.8) Hand calculated w/ gps. Normal (above 65mph, ac on, etc.) highway driving I see around 22-23. Mixed with city it seems to range around 19-21 iirc, driving style has a huge effect of course. I accelerated slowly and drove very calmly when I reached nearly 25

Best I have ever gotten 100% highway is 24 mpg. Normally I get 18-20 mixed. All around town gets 14.5 to 15 (I'm very heavy on the throttle though)
