Best Duramax engine model for performance?

I have a chance to purchase a LMM or an LB7 motor with approximately 120K miles on each. The LB7 needs to injectors, but I would plan to replace the injectors anyways. As for performance stock with EFI Live Tuning and aftermarket bolt ons with EFI Live Tuning, which engine does everyone think would be a better option. This motor will be placed in a car. I would like to place twin’s, and maybe in S480 for the big turbo. That’s what I had in my truck many years ago, and that thing screamed. Thoughts?

Less wiring and not having to deal with ficm. Also better injectors and head gaskets. No dealing with cups.

LBZ would be the #1 imho, but of the 2, I like my LB7. Plain, simple, does what you tell it to with programming, and sac injectors seem to have helped with there achilles heel.

I have tons of experience with the LMM. The engine will be dropped in a Camaro in the next couple of months. I thought the LB7 would be more simple to install. Less emissions and stuff, but I wasn't sure how the mechanical side on the LB7 holds up.

LBZ would be ideal IMO. I'm having a difficult time finding duramax engines.

The LMM with 135K is $4K. The LB7 is $2.5K. However it needs new injectors. I might be able to talk down the LB7 guy.

the fact the LB7 has such a "dumb" computer in comparison to the LMM is why id go with it. there are fixes for cups/injectors/etc. The LMM ecm can be more finicky if you get one that just doesnt want to agree with your setup.

Could do a lmm with a lbz harness if that's a concern. Ken did my standalone harness and was vary vary helpful with these type of questions.

I would go with the LB7 so you don’t have to worry about cracking pistons.

That could be an option. Dealing with the emission stuff on those motors sucks.

What year lb7? If it’s an 01-02, no question go with it. Those trucks are stupid. If it’s an 03-04 I’d go with the LMM instead.

Stock format go with the LMM. You could get more HP than the LB7 and if you don’t crack a piston or break a crank it will your overall better choice.

LMM, like stated earlier just run it with lbz harness and computer. You won't have to worry about integration with your setup in Camaro...

Could you explain what changed from 01-02 to 03-04? Sounds like some mechanical design changed.

Just got a lb7 in the junk yard the other day. 96k miles on it. Needs injectors as one is stuck. I ran it a little bit. If your interested.can get harness computer the whole nine to go with it.
