Best Credit Card Cash Back

Just wondering what everyone has for credit card. Right now I have a 1st Financial Bank Card and get 0 Cash back. I figure I might as well get something back since I seem to put about 500 a month through the card. I really don't care if it has a 4000% interest rate because I always pay it off.

Looking at a Cabela's, GMAC, Marathon. Anyone else have experiences with any of these cards?

I have a cabelas card, the payback is okay but IIRC I put on and paid off about 6g's last year and that earned me about $177.00 to be used at cabelas. When you have a cabelas card they send out promotions which are usually pretty good. Like when I bought my Springfield Armory .40cal I got a instant $150.00 off because any purchase over $500.00 qualified for the savings. I hear discover has good paybacks as well.

i have a provident credit union credit card. had others but only need one now.

My dad has a cabela's card and it seems pretty good, but the marathon card is pretty neat too since it would be 5% back on all of the gas I buy and 1% on everything else.

(It wouldn't be a big hit except our local gas station is marathon.

National City Rewards Card... 5% for fuel, 4% restaurants, 3% for groceries, 2% movies etc, 1% everything else.


I can't remember if that's exactly how it goes but it's something like that. Certain things get you 5%, 4%, 3%, 2% or 1% cash back. It accumulates and once you reach $100, they mail you a check or knock it off your bill. best to not ever have an outstanding bill. Unfortunately, I was irresponsible and the damn thing is maxed and basically useless to me now. My fault but for a responisble person, it's a pretty dang good card IMO. Oh, it's a VISA if that matters.

Costco American Express. It is free with your costco membership and gives you different % cash back for stuff you buy but I don't remember right off hand what they are. Better than the Wells Fargo Visa I had that they charged me $20 a year for and only got 1% on.

The bad part is for younger people its the only way to establish credit, i resisted having credit cards for years, i probably had around 5 trucks i bought between 17 and 20, and still had no credit from those loans, the bank told me i needed a credit card if a wanted to establish credit.

same thing has happened to me.... i've had 2 truck loans (both with a parent as a cosigner) both with auto payment with a perfect payment record and I still cant go get a truck loan on my own.... (dont have a Credit card)

Credit Cards are actually a great thing. You just have to look at it as a short term loan. I've used 0%/1 year cards to pay for some pretty big items that I couldn't get financing for. You just better pay off the balance by the time that interest kicks in.

Credit Card companies actually hate me because they have never made one red cent from me, and I gladly take the rewards they offer. I currently have a hotel rewards card because I travel a good bit, but I have been looking at the Costco AmEx card.

I hear that the AmExp company is bad to deal with if you have a debt/balance with them. So, be advised if going with AmExp, don't carry any balance with them.

This is a recommendation by Dave Ramsey, Mr. Anti-Debt. He obviously doesn't like any credit cards but especially dispises AmExp due to how they run things. He says he has carried a 20-yr. boycott with them and doesn't see an end to that boycott anytime soon.

american express is great if you pay it off right away. i had many cards with them.
i like citibank visa i had them in college and had a low interest rate, my provident credit card rate is pretty high so i may be switching soon.
cc debt is the worst in the US, it is a problem for some people who can't manage money having a cc is good for establishing credit its just being smart with the money.

I have always paid off my card, even though I would love to be able to spend 110% of my income on fun stuff, I somehow maintain selfcontrol. Well somewhat.....

so what would be a good card to make a 3-4k purchase and to pay it off within a year. most of the balance would be paid off in the first couple months
