What would make my stock turbo better? I have a batmowheel in it now. And I want to make it better, in the process of building everything up,
Also, I don't know anything about it, but could it just be my guages... When I'm cruising down the road at 70mph should I be reading any form of boost pressure? If so, the guage right now is reading zero. Anything I can do to solve this problem?

Further info... I have to get on the pedal a little amount past cruising in order to create any kind of boost that'll read. I top out at about 22 pounds. I've done leak test to see if I'm leaking anywhere and they all have came back negative. Kinda frustrating. My buddy has the same exact guages, same exact tune, only difference is he has a 5in turbo back exhaust and I have a 4in turbo back exhaust. He's riding a stock hieght gmc lly and I'm riding a 6in lifted chevy lly. Other than that same exact trucks. And he says he's usually running about 3-5 pounds cruising at 70mph.

I would think your turbo should sound pretty loud as is with that downpipe on there.. But get an intake, that will really make her whistle. Or port/polish the turbo

My friend has an 06 lbz/lly (whatever) and he makes more boost than my lb7 does. He makes about 7 psi of boost at around 75 mph

You may simply have a bad gauge or a slightly pinched boost line if it's a mechanical gauge. How does the power compare between your two trucks?

you have a stock trans still, the stock turbo is more than enough to lunchbox a stock trans.

My best mileage tune when I still had the stock turbo was 0-1psi at 70mph.

On his truck it seems like he has a little more on the lower end, I have it on the higher end power wise. The line was kinked when I got the guages, it still read about 3psi before I put the new batmo in, and once I did the batmo it seems like it lowered performance a bit, I mean the spool up is great if the trucks still not completely warmed up, I can barely touch the pedal (figuratively speaking) and I'll hit 10pounds pretty easy.

The batmowheels really shine for spool up, but not so much for total power. From the sounds of it you don't have anything to worry about. Boost on a gauge is just a number. Now if the truck wasn't performing well then you might have a problem. As mentioned above if your transmission is stock you're completely limited by that and not your current turbo.

From what I have heard the glowshift stuff isn't super accurate... As mentioned above less boost cruising means better economy.

Porting and polishing the turbo adds very little sound change in my opinion. When you throw a 10 blade p-stroke wheel in a lly charger that is what really changes the sound.

I wouldn't be worried about the number on the gauge if the truck runs good like other members have stated.

Get a built trans before you do anything else.

Is there a write up on this? If so can you post a link? I have never heard of anyone doing this, didn't even know it was possible?

Dunno about the write up. 03 powerstroke 10 blade turbine wheel. Flows a lot more air at higher Rpms than a stock wheel. May be a touch laggier down low. Will drop right in a lly charger. No machine work needed. Only downfall your truck will now whistle like a 6.0.

Here's a right up I started awhile back on LLY turbo's I've done, there's a few video's as well.
http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52437&page=9

Page 1, post #4 has videos I took of an LLY with a batmowheel, stock turbine wheel, fingers vanes, and ported/polished. Page 7, post 97 has a short video of an LLY with a TCT comp wheel, 10 blade turbine wheel, fingers vanes, and ported/polished. Page 8, post 108 has a ride along video of that same turbo as page 7.

There's not really a right up on replacing a turbine wheel per say. You basically take the turbo apart and replace the turbine wheel.

I've done a few turbos now with the 10 blade turbine wheel, it sounds good. They should flow more air in general being it has less rotating mass and larger pockets to fill with air.

I also haven't heard of anybody say it's laggy down low, the opposite in fact.

Porting/polishing will open it up and smooth it out so it can flow more air. It will also lower your boost pressure b/c you're reducing restriction, there for it doesn't have to work as hard.

As for sound, you can get that from a compressor wheel, turbine wheel, and opening up the exhaust housing. For the VVT turbo's I can only open them up to a max of 3" due to the size of the downpipe. Just that little bit though increase the sound quite a bit.

Now for the IHI's I open them up ALOT!!! That makes them sound like a jet!!:thumb:

Sorry for the long post OP, there were lots of questions and I wan't to give answers based on my experiences.

If you have any questions or need parts let me know.
