I just seen the banks billet flexplate and i was wondering whats the differences in between the two banks or ats. Other than ats being solid and the banks having holes in the plate thats all i can tell. anyone have a idea of the price on the banks? which one is better than the other one?

IIRC, the ATS Flexplate is only reccomended to be used with the ATS converters due to bolt up issues. As far as the Banks goes, I have not heard any feedback on these.

AFAIK, the stock flexplate is quite reliable when used with ALL converters up to quite substantial HP numbers.

I know alot of guys are running the stock flexplate but i am just weighing my options as to which way to go. Just trying to get all the parts together so i can build my motor

I was contimplating an ATS flexplate, Mike L. told me it was only needed with the 5 star converter at my power level, because of the weight. I no longer have the ats in my truck.

I believe the banks aloows for the suncoast converters to be bolted up compared to the ATS is a 12 bolts design which only works with the 5 star

There is a third option, Opie of Intelligent Engineering makes one, I'm installing one in my 06. It's full billet and much lighter then the ATS. I had the ATS one with the five star. Very heavy and zero flex, I never had any problems with it, but felt it wasn't needed for my application, the 5 star too is heavy as hell.

When they do come out ( Banks ), I was promissed the first one from Mr. Banks. I like the looks of it.

I don't think the weight of the ATS is an issue because it replaces both units ( flex plate and flywheel ). What i worry about is the fact that it doesn't flex.

I'm not sure if I'm off base , but wouldnt a heavy TC , flywheel & flexplate make the motor rev slow?????

i plan on keeping the stocker but opies might be something to look into, any other info on it??

I wanna have all of the parts ready to be balanced when i take it to curtis.

From what I have seen 2.8 and up classes only require them if going over 4500RPM, i dont think theres many trucks around that can hold over 4500RPM in 4th

Mike that was our thinking as well. As I said, never had an issue with it, but I probably never really tested it in my Gray 02.

Who's seen failure of the stock unit, what were the conditions and power level?

Simon's failed and it had been running from anywhere between stock and Approx. 500hp on his '05 with about 100 000 miles on it IIRC. Others have gone higher miles and HP and not failed.

It really seems to be random from what I have seen.
