which ever tires break loose first is where power will be sent to and keep sending power to.

i think you would find you spin the front tires more than the rear tires but i agree, id look for something more like the 149

Here's the NP249 from some of the late 90's Jeeps. It's similar in operation to the 149 but it's a manually shifted 2 mode full time AWD with the viscous coupling.

Compare input gear to the 263 from our trucks, they look similar.

According to this chart though, the torque rating is pretty low, only 1800 ft-lb

Just saw this today...didn't really read the whole thread...I've probably built 500 GM t-cases.

BW4485 has the centre diff - the AWD in the Denali's its used in operates by tapping the brakes via the ABS system to redistribute power, prob not ideal.

NV149 input would have to be custom made. It would bolt up, but then you would have to run the smaller slip yoke on the driveshaft.

My only question is why?

Years ago I had a customer that wanted to make his silverado ss 2WD so he could do burnouts...I shit you not....built an NP261 for it with the range collar welded into the input shaft so it would always be in the 2HI position...some people.

Must have really wanted to do some burnouts...

Wouldn't it have been easier to put in a 2wd trans and delete the transfer case completely?

As for why, just looking for better traction in daily driving situations. I can't realistically drive around in 4hi. But it seems like there's nothing out there that will fit the bill, so I'll probably just leave it as is.

Gotcha.

Well, none will work without some custom machining/fabrication of an input shaft and even then you will lose strength.

Assuming this is for the 1500? Maybe a Van 4L80 and van 4481 swap?

I thought about that as well, I wonder if the 4L80 would survive? Of course I start looking at this 2 months after having the Allison built, lol. Probably would save some weight, and I wonder how the drivetrain losses compare between the Allison and 4L80?

I've made I don't know how many mid to high 11 second passes and 1 10.8 at 125 mph with mine.

07.5+ You can use a MP3023 and swap a few parts from the 1026shd to make it a bit stronger. - auto 4wd/2wd etc... They come out of a yukon/suburban hd that has the 6l90 iirc. It'll hold up to average street abuse, but not hard launching. The clutches fry.
