This may be a long post but is very worth reading. I am in the middle of a huge problem this dealer has caused and is doing everything to avoid. I own a 2013 Chevy 3500HD LML with only 22,000 miles on it. In the beginning of January I took it to the dealer because after a very cold start on one of those -20* mornings, it threw CELs and warnings for the emissions system. The dealer had the truck for over a week, told me the DEF fluid was low and it needed fuel. The porter at the dealer put ¼ of gasoline in my Duramax and drove it until the vehicle began running very rough. The diesel tech then did the diagnostics to figure out the issue, and eventually replaced the fuel, fuel filter and flushed the lines. I demanded something be done about the injectors and pump because now the dealer just compromised the integrity of the fuel system. I contacted GM Customer Service and I asked for assurance that even though this is on the record of the vehicle, all dealers would honor my warranty. She told me “All dealers are owned and operated independently and make their own decisions on honoring warranty work. General Motors cannot guarantee that a dealership will not turn down warranty work.” Even after contacting GM Customer Service, nothing was done except a formal letter written stating that if anything happens to the fuel system that can be proven it was caused by the incorrect fuel, and another dealer does not cover the repairs, Serra will pick up the cost. Now I own a $60,000 truck with a warranty that “might” be honored if something goes wrong.
Two weeks after this I began having troubles with the emissions system. Within 800 miles since it was serviced, the truck was about to regen for the third time. On the second regen, while in traffic, there was white/gray smoke coming from under the hood, under the truck and filling the cab. I called Serra to inform them that it was coming right back. There was also a noise that was forming and getting worse right at 2,500 rpm only when the motor was cold. An inconsistent mechanical noise never there before. When the motor warms up, it goes away. The truck went into the dealer for this on 2/4. The next day I picked up the truck after they told me there was nothing wrong with it. The manual regen did not recreate any smoke and the test drive showed no abnormal sounds. 5 miles from the dealer I had to pull over to take this video… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WW8xVgcyLg I went straight back to the dealer and no one I had originally talked to was there. The person that helped me calculated that only 11 miles have been put on the truck from when I pulled it into the service bay the first time until I brought it back… 10 of those I put on trying to take it home. How can the dealer diagnose anything in addition to moving it around the lot in less than 1 mile. I called this morning and the service manager told me they found a service bulletin about the smoke issue and would look into it. I told him about the mileage issue and he said that he did not know about it and would look into it. He then started questioning me about “aftermarket equipment” that I have on my truck. Of which I have none and told him so. He said the gauges are considered aftermarket equipment, so what else is on there you are not telling me about. I told him I was unaware that gauges were considered aftermarket equipment that can alter the performance and warranty of a vehicle. He again questioned what else I had done and when I again said nothing, he told me they would scan the computer to be sure nothing has been altered. I was getting furious. Told him go ahead its bone stock… what I have done to it was window tint, mud flaps, a 5th wheel/gooseneck hitch and a second trailer wiring plug in the bed for the camper… He told me that all that is considered aftermarket equipment and as long as that is on the truck they will no longer be able to work on it. I told him that was BS and they need to fix what it is in for and he again told me that this will be the last time they will work on this truck. Now I own a 2013 truck with 22,9xx miles on it that has had gasoline run through it and it shows on the service record that I have aftermarket equipment (gauges, hitch and tints) and that the dealer has denied work because of it. They ****ed up my truck, turned around and ****ed me over and now im left here. I have again reached out to GM Customer Service and if that goes nowhere… media and an attorney will come.
Everyone needs to be aware, keep your vehicles away from this incompetent dealership.

Wow that is crazy!!!!!! What a bunch of worthless bastards. We have always taken our trucks to Hank Graff in Davison and have had good luck. I cant say much about any dealers in your area though.

On edit: Take it to Jim Waldron GMC in Davison, friend of mine is the head diesel technician and he knows what hes doing and won't try and screw you.

Boy is that true been saying it for years. Also I understand your frustration and aggravation but something else I've said (like it or not) ATTITUDE will get you in the door and OUT the door! In other words you play nice they will play nice you get pissy and ditto, they make your life miserable! REGARDLESS who is at fault!

We all know gauges ,tint ,mud flaps, fifth wheel hitch and trailer wiring isn't warranty voiding after market items ,hell the dealer will install 3 of the 5 items mentioned! BUT they will and do play they voiding warranty card when they get a hair blocking their poop shoot!!

So unfortunately NOW your only recourse will be to spend money something they have plenty of to defend, hoping you don't, and they wont have to deal with you again. Sucks but it's the truth.

So good luck call GM customer service be professional ,they didn't F up your truck, remember that, perhaps they will send in a regional manager to get things worked out at the dealer that is your ONLY help before calling a attorney.

Oh ya try a paragraph here and there makes for easy reading! ;)

What is a 1/4 of gas? 1/4 tank or 1/4 gal? Regardless that shouldn't of damaged your truck. Yep it might have taken a few mile off the life of your engine, but thats it.

Sucks you had to find out they where a crappy dealer like this. I would think any good dealer would still work on your truck.

Try not to get to worked up they don't have a leg to stand on. No one in there right mind would think that the mods you have done would affect your truck in this way. If you take this to court and you should if you have to you will win.

For now I would find a good dealer to work on your truck. Just take it in don't say anything other then you are having issues again. Unless they start asking lots of questions there is no need for them to know what isn't in the truck history report.

Man I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that dealer sucks! I bought a 02 from them and out of the gate had blown head gaskets. After they "fixed" it once I was still losing fluid. I took repeated oil analysis to them. After a year they bought the truck back. Needless to say the next day it was on the lot for sale. Poor guy who ended up with that!

Sorry man, don't know what to tell you.

Has anyone experienced that smoke? Kinda hard to miss that...

That sucks all the way around, The Smoke is from the actuator for the 9th injector located on the valve cover, There is a TSB on that i'll try to find that for you, Fuel is always being pumped down to it, the only thing keeping it held together is the bracket supporting the actuator.

I've got a little more going on than just a gauge or two, In the early going my dealer was more than helpful and actually replaced the radiator after it blew apart on me. I Offered to pay and said it was covered under warranty.

Advance one year later the power steering hose is leaking and there is a TSB on that as well, and was told this time on your own bud. I could easily do the repair on it myself, but Lack of Garage space and 10* weather and laying on my back was not an option.

I guess the whole point of this is I believe Higher powers are putting the kibosh to reimbursing the Owner/operators of the dealerships. Known issues, TSB's and no one wants to pay, so anything that looks like they did not have installed from GM or dealer will get the aftermarket BS thrown at them.

Sorry you have to deal with that being its a stock truck...

I hope you get this resolved! Stories like this make me dislike the new ones and like my 06 even more. What's the since in buying new if you don't get the warranty. I mean that's why most people buy new other than the fact of having a nice new truck. What ever happened to the massey ferguson act?

That is just ridiculous. I understand the whole place nice and (hope) they play nice thing. But when you spend $60k on a vehicle and get told BS like that, who wouldnt have a short fuse. I can promise you an attorney would be the least of that dealers worries.

Sorry for the jumbled mess. I was still quite infuriated when typing that in Word and copy and pasted it over, apparently losing its formatting.

It was 1/4 tank of fuel.

The service manager did call me back last night and said they are ordering the parts for the TSB to fix the issue. I'm very skeptical on the competency of this dealership. The service manager did arrange a loaner through enterprise since they didnt have anything on the lot. When I got there last night there was a brand new 2014 Cadillac XTS loaner waiting for me. I have a feeling he got his ass chewed by someone, called Enterprise and said "we ****ed up, get me the nicest car you have, NOW"

I've been quite calm through this entire mess until they start pushing my buttons. The service manager is a complete air head and has been the only one I have lost my temper on. I've thanked everyone along the way for any assistance, however I'm starting to feel like thats being too soft.

I've dealt with them before, my last truck was in and out of there till they finally wanted to fix the original problem again, or buy it back. And then the next day sell the same truck that was broke. I will never do business with them ever again.

The smoke from under the hood could be that the downpipe is not on turbine housing correctly. Sometimes is only noticed when regen, due to increased back pressure, etc. We just had to fix one today in a hurry because it was being delivered tomorrow and started filling cab with smoke while idling, melting off snow. The tech at Chev garage said it appears that it has never been on correctly, 33k on truck now.
