Well guys... I'm going to attempt it...
A full drain and refill doing the hoot method, plus trans-go Jr in a day:baby:

My question is, I have NO vaseline, or trans-gel ANYWHERE... is there something else that can be used?

I have:
Anti-Seize - obviously not
Brake Caliper pin grease - Maybe?
Axle Grease w/ Moly, black stuff - Maybe?

Also - can I, or should I use brake-clean to clean anything on the valve body while it's out? Im thinking no because it's pretty abrasive to plastic stuff...

Thank you!

Thanks fella's - I have no white lithium grease either ... the only thing I do have close is the black axle grease, I'm thinking of trying that.

Now I just need to get off my butt and get started....:cool2:

Can you still drive the truck ? or have something else go get some vaseline atleast. It will break down in the trans fluid.

I was actually thinking along those lines... I don't want to screw this thing up

I might call my wife and beg - for vaseline

She may not come home :hello:

OK, VERY Stupid question - I see that I'm taking out and replacing trim valve a and b and their spring (the one that fits inside the valve itself)...

So, I take it there's already a ball in the original valve, do I take out that oem ball completely and replace it with the new ball...

I guess what I'm asking is I'm scared of this and want to be SURE that I'm only putting 1 ball in per valve...

if you've read far enough ahead to know about the valves and springs coming out chances are you're gonna be fine doing it.

No, there is no ball in the original trim valves. There is a spring on the outside, similar to the orange springs that come with the Jr, and you'll find a spring over the gain valve for Trim valve a (the one towards the outside of the VB).

You don't NEED anything to put them in (just lube the trim valves with ATF though), but vaseline or transgel makes it much easier. It helps keep the ball and spring in the valve. Without it, you just need to pay VERY CLOSE attention when you're installing the trim valves to be sure the ball and spring don't fall out of the valve.

Thank you so much!!

I just got the vaseline, so I'm set up! I take it just a DAB to hold it will suffice?

I will be sure to lube the valves w/ atf, thanks for the tip!

I don't need to 'fill' the valve body with atf though, right? The transmission pump will do that upon restart, correct?

Thank you for your response! I would have dug forever looking for those balls in my original one!

Nope, no need to fill; just put it together, install and torque it all down to 9 ft/lb. Start in the center and work your way out in a circle. You'll notice when you put it into gear for the forst time after putting it together that it'll take a few seconds to engage. You may get some DTC's, but once you have engaged Reverse and Drive, as long they don't come back, you'll be ok. Also make sure the O-Rings on the pressure switch manifold all stay in place. The one that's "All by it's self" (the reverse pressure switch) can move, and you'll have to drop the pan and PSM if it does; I did that last time I put the VB back in my truck .

Just get some vasoline on your finger and "scrape" it into the opening in the end of the valves, then stick the ball and spring in through it; It'll help keep them in place. You don't need a ton.
