Hi guys, I've got a LLY with a ATS transmission. it was in it when I bought the truck. I wasn't able to get a whole lot of info about it from the owner, other than it was supposed to be a stage 5 able to hold 800hp. Things i do know is it has a 5 star converter and was original purchased in 2010. ATS has no info on it because they dont have records back that far? Anyway I need to change the converter. It rattles and seems like its not very consistant. Question is what converter should I go with and is there anything else that should be done to help this thing. shifts seem a little lazy. It does not have the co-pilot. Any insight would be appreciated:thumb:

I would recommend bringing it to a reputable Allison builder near you and have them refresh it with the latest and greatest. Reason I say go this route is because there is likely work to be done that isn't taught on the forums here or supplied in a standard "kit"

Ok. Having it completely gone through is not in the cards right now. I might just have to change the converter and then do the trans in the fall. Thanks

I really like the Suncoast 1054 converter for the duramax vvt chargers. I would call Henry or go to his site cotnp.com and get one to put in place of the ATS one you have. might as well get both filters from him while your at it too

I'm not very knowledgable on ATS complete transmissions. Is it an ATS built unit or one of there upgrade kits for a stock Allison. Since your from MI, and if it has a kit in it, Crank it up diesel may have built it. Kyle may have info on it still. Kind of irrelevant since you just need a converter but I thought I'd throw that out. Oh, my 5 star rattles too...

The truck actually came from Missouri. And It is a complete ATS unit. The converter drives me nuts. It seems to work ok but its annoying! Thanks for the info

I personally like how tight the 1054 is. Doesn't take so much rpm to get and keep the truck moving. I have a billet 4094vvt and S483 twins. It spools them great. Normal driving is awesome and I can brake spool to 30#'s very easy. It brakes stalls around 22-2300rpm which is plenty for any variable charger.

Unless your setup it exactly right, you will hate the 1054 on the street. Suncoast has much better options for DD.
