Kat's Mike L trans is at about 80,000 miles with hundreds of 1/4 mile passes, and several sledpulls, towing, and a lot of goofing off on the street.

Blue has about the same on it's Mike L trans.

Casper never had a trans failure, even at 936rwhp, but it was used for a lot of testing, so it doesn't have the original Mike L in it.

ATS? There was a Casper One. It got an ATS system in it.

First control box (???) was DOA. Shipped from ATS dead. Second worked. Clutches delaminated due to lack of proper gluing, only 60% of the surface was in contact with the steels.

Oh, and the ATS converter did not make it 200 miles of street driving with no abuse at all. It lost it's clutches IIRC and had to be towed back to Mike's.

That was back in 2005, hopefully they hired a quality control tech to stop shipping dog poop out the door.

Sadly, we assumed it was a quirk of the 2WD Allison, and not just junk trans parts, so we sold the truck with less than 4000 miles on it. Only later during the trans autopsy did we find out why it wouldn't shift right.

Yanked it out, and found the following. C2 steels looked like they should have melted, but friction material on clutches is still intact ?,C3 steels show some discoloration, and clutches look fine. C4 apply piston has 1/2 inch long by 3/8 wide rip on outside edge. I don't have time to go back and fourth with someone 2000 miles away, and then wait for parts. I will give this thing one more chance to redeem itself. :banghead: Other than remove everything ATS . What can i do while im in there. Local ats guy to busy to get it done right now,but has my parts. Copilot getting deleted as it never seemed to work correctly. Getting all seals from Allison, and reverse tube. Transgo getting the nod. This thing needs to get moving, got work to do!

I've seen a PPE stage whatever last a month behind a 550 HP LB7.
Kid did burnouts all the time and floored it everywhere it went. Some people just abuse the piss out of their stuff. I'm not knocking PPE just saying

poor ole slick rick:rolleyes:

Get a complete stock replacement and have it built by a reputable shop.

^^X2

Unless the shop REALLY knows about converting an ATS Allison back to "stock", then putting in a more standard kit, that is really good advice. There are lots of little bits that need to be changed, and I was only dealing with one of their "kits", not a drop in that has all the :secret: goodies.

Unless you just want to go back in with all ATS stuff....

I have beat on my SC V with 1057 a lot, I don't so stupid stuff with it, but I do tow, ran about 25,000 miles on a 450-520HP tune and 7,500 miles on my current tune, 10ish 11 second passes and a bunch of 12 second passes on a 8,000lb truck. But I have heard of people tearing them up doing stupid stuff. Any company might send a bad product out the door, it happens. What I care about is how they take care of the situation when it happens and how often it happens

what nice is when you do have an issue and the builder doesnt feed you bull on what caused what to happen and still takes care of you in the end. My stage 4 from mike made it 30k BUT bad tuning from years prior did it in once the power went up. This was evident once the trans was torn down and mike showed me why. In the end he still took very good care of me price and labor wise. i could not have ever asked for more. I would find it hard to believe ATS would offer the service and turn around time mike can give on a trans with an issue.

From my understanding, before you go and start putting different parts inside the ATS trans, you need to know exactly what ATS did so you can properly reverse it. Sounds to me like another disaster waiting to happen.

What happend to yours and how long/miles did it last? I must be lucky kuz im on my fifth year and no problemos. Mine must have been built on a Tuesday.
After install of the twin, 3rd gear didnt like it.The trans kit has been in for a litle over 3 years and just out of warrenty but the truck has maybe not even 10,000 miles on it in that time from down time doing the motor build, powder coating, motor swaps, injector issues and so on.Well everything is going to be new now motor trans fuel system, nothing better break now:angel:

But your about to have a ballin ass kit in there scott :thumb:
Yes i will :woott: And im not rebuilding the ATS Im building a complete stock trans with 39,000 miles on it.The ATS will probably get looked at,new clutches and possibly sold.I like to have back ups so i may shelf it.

Wasn't to long ago Mike was asked what it would take to convert a ATS to say Suncoast internals and it wasn't a whole lot to do if I recall. Long enough ago I don't recall but it's here somewhere. Try and search
