this trans has a total of 4 years on it and two of witch have been some hard sled pulling...

whats your thoughts?

i got a feeling i know what everyones going to say,it needs a rebuild etc...just thought i would ask before we jumped right in and done it

also here are pic of what we found in the pan when we serviced it

IMO that isn't a whole lot of debris for 4 years. Just saying

Since you aren't staying ATS on the rebuild I'd like to know what it will take to convert a Purple built transmission to a Suncoast style conversion. ATS does not use a Transgo and make different changes to the valvebody and who knows what else. So what is involved?

If the TC isn't replaced at the time of rebuild IMO it should be sent out inspected and or flushed. Has to be cheaper then replacing as long as your satisfied with the one you have.

Just replacing clutches would be reasonable in cost . But can you just buy Alto's? Mike needs to chime in I've never been in side a ATS transmission,if he would. He has had to of worked on one previously so he'll know.

Come on buddy I've been curious as to what is involved. :D

A friend of mine built an ATS Stg2 for his LLY a few years ago, IIRC it came with an all new C2 drum instead of modding it like the transgo, also has new backing plates and apply pistons so I don't think you'll be able to run regular Alto power packs, but then again I'm no trans guy either :thumb:

I smoked my trans and my converter after 4 hard years and I still had less material in the pan than that.

I hear you but for ATS clutches that's clean for four years!

That's what I'm saying. My thought was you are better off using it as core by the time you gather necessary hard parts but I'd like to hear Mike chime in as I'm not 100% sure. A new plate for the valve body can't be that much it's mostly what mods are done to c1 c2 drum. If you could get pistons and backing plates as a kit with the clutches then it can't be that bad.

Maybe we stumped him! :roflmao:

Have you reset the taps, done a fast learn, and checked the psi at the port?

The only difference I found in my trans with a ATS stage 2 is a stepped HD thrust bearing and a machined p1 drive flange for the extra snap ring ats uses. I also called ATS and one of the builders confirmed that's all they change.

The port is beside the spin on filter. Since its an ats trans you will probably have around 315-325 psi at 1800 rpm. You can also reset just the taps for the 2-1 downshift so you dont have to re-learn everything.

Thats odd, was it a kit or built by them? Maybe he built a Stg3 but I thought the only difference was the co-pilot.... My buddy (Colin) had bought a kit from Crankitupdsl.

I'll have to ask him again, but I remember him asking why mine didn't come with a new hub when I installed the power packs
