That top transfer case bolt is a PITA if you don't have a stubby 15mm, or a short ratchet, or some sort of flex wrench. That was my only real trouble. I did it in 6 hours with a little help from the guy I am doing for (rotating the converter etc), I went slow and made sure I knew where everything went. I also had to run to my house 10 miles away to get tools once, since my friend just bought the property with the lift and has no tools. Oh and a stop at Subway for some food. :thumb:

Only problem we found so far is the adapter housing is also cracked, so the fly wheel/flex plate has to come off.

I am have a new transfer case / ally gasket too.

Anyone have an adapter plate forsale? PM me. I may call Mike tomarrow.

Were is the intermediate plate cracked? I broke a chunk of mine off when I pulled the motor, I just cleaned up the area and aluminum welded it back together. It was in a non crucial spot on mine though. I think Trent or one of his buddy has one he is selling, try P.M.ing him or E-bay usually has a couple kicking around.... You have to pull the oil pan aswell to get the adapter plate offf, JFYI....

It is at the ear on the bottom where the trans bolts up. Not sure what consitutes a critical location?

Can you pull the oil pan without pulling the motor?

I have one sitting in my shop i dont need, its off of a spare motor I bought.

It was a preproduction motor, but I can go out and verify that it is the same as my 2003 motor.

I need an excuse to start working on my truck anyways, let me know.

I use Transgel to hold bolts in sockets, I think I use my transgel more for holding bolts when working on stuff than I actually use it for trannys.

That top t case bolt is a PITA. I just lower the trans all the way down and use a cut off wrench. Same wrench that I have modified for removing turbos as well.

6 hours doesnt sound too bad for a first time.

Mike helped me a ton on my first time too.

I do have a writeup on here I think on how to remove it, but sounds like you got it done.

For the flywheel, remember to get new bolts and have fun removing them and then retorquing them. They are tight SOBs. Torque spec is 58lb-ft then 60 degrees and then 60 more degrees. Pattern is torque one then skip two and torque the third and keep going until you are done, if you catch what I mean.

Let me know about that rear housing and I will go out and look at it.

I believe you can remove the oil pan by unbolting that cross brace that is under it, but I have never had to do it so I am not 100% sure. I do know that the trans has to be out to remove the upper oil pan.

You can remove the pan with the motor in the truck. To the OP, What I meant by crucial was anywhere near or on the water jackets in the top of the adapter plate. Mine broke near the starter on a bolt hole, I just clamped the pieces together and gauged out the crack lines on the inside and outside of the plate and then aluminum welded it back together.....
