Currently building my LB7/lly engine, tow use, using the stock turbo that has been ported, headers, down pipe. Anyone tested or have feedback on the Colt cams? Wagler? or anyone else? Do they work or just a waste of money. TIA.

Not aware of anyone that has done a back to back swap and posted results. Yes cams work, and can help stretch the usable rpm range of the engine. For your application I'd leave the stock cam, or if it needs changed stay on the smaller side

Adam put a small cam in when he did his like, 20th engine 😁 and noted the bottom end he gained.

on a stock turbo, thats basically what you will gain is more bottom end with a cam. the top end wont really come to light without something that moves more air. the CFM a stock turbo produces (even powerted and polished) isnt enough to show good gains up top with a cam that allows more breathing room.

i dont know what headers you are running but larger ones actually hurt spool up time in your situation. i would have done a cam before manifolds/up pipes

When I built my motor I didn’t change air or fuel. Drop to 16.5:1 comp and did a SoCal 6460 cam I believe. I think I noticed more bottom end but nothing I could test.

At the very least I would have the exhaust side of the heads ported, and do a tow cam from wherever there’s not a magical cam that’ll make a huge difference any company is basically doing the same thing.

Thanks, i'll get them ported, was on the fence but might as well.

The engines in pieces, so figured if a cam helped, why not. Not interested in high rpm power, just more towing power. :)
Thanks for the reply.

I’m doing a SoCal 3388 AF in my street/tow engine. It does not require valve pockets to be cut in the pistons. Anything bigger then that or the stage 1 cam, would need pockets.
