take a lot of miles to offset the fuel cost in changing 2 gearsets. If you're doing it for something other than mileage, then disregard me :D

If you're looking for more RPM in the 1/4 you are going to want a numerically higher gear (4.10 vs 3.73). For drag racing many have gone to numerically lower gears (3.42 vs 3.73) these will net you a lower RPM, as many run shorter than stock drag radials.

4.11 as aid above will give you more rpm, 3.42 will give you more of a highway gear for mileage or as caleb said good for sled truck probably IM JUST GUESSING because since it is a taller gear it will keep a sled truck in its 3rd gear for a longer period off time

I'd have them if they came from the factory as a choice. On the hiway the Duramax runs just right with a six/spd Alli. and that 3:42 for me. The work to change it out is still quite a parts hunt for my 1 ton around here.

Old thread, slim chance but I thought I'd ask if anyone with a zf6 has run 342s on the street or strip. I run a shorter tire than most and my truck. I think the 342s would help load the engine a little harder in the lower gears I'm pretty sure I don't see over 20 psi in 3rd on the launch, and maybe 25 in 4th. 5th and sixth it loads plenty hard and really pulls. Just wonder if it would help the front half at the strip at all. Feels like a monster on the highway, just might need a little help in the lower gears.

I've pondered the same thing in my cab and chassis. Turns way too high of rpm on the interstate and 1st gear is about useless

If i launch in second if you are thinking of it as a six speed, I have to hit 3rd before I have time to think lol. I launch third and it just raps out still with no real load on it. And i guess I don't have the power to launch 4th yet lol. I'm thinking with 342s maybe still launching 3rd or second would have a sweet spot where it will load hard but not bog to bad.

I'm installing 342's in Steve trojanos truck this week I'll let you know. Also I have a 342 gear change scheduled on a 2wd Lly zf6 next month. I'll let you know or let me know if you do them sooner.

Haven't tried a boosted launch, yet :roflmao: I take off in 2nd if on a hill and usually 3rd if flat ground. Sometimes 4th lol
