Dont know much about the bnsf but with u.p. im gone anywhere from24-48 hours at a time.
NO set schedule you get a phone call and have 2 hours to be there. Railroading is a whole different life style and works for some people and not for others. Divorce rate is the highest with railroaders for a reason. It is a great career with in my opinion one of the best retirements available and great benefits and the chance to make a bunch of money if you like to work alot. Its definitely not for everybody.

Kansas when I am home
Must have been the times then, one of my good friends went recently and 90% of the candidates were offered jobs. How old were you at the time?

I was 17... just out of high school, excellent work ethics and scored excellent in the yarding tests, i.e. remote control operation remote pitching, knuckle swaps, bleed down testing, hand brake operations, ingress and egress on moving equipment.

I believe something must have happened the BNSF ranks while we were there, we had 4 different teachers and some days no teacher...

All said it is an excellent class, they will hair follicle test you so don't do anything stupid... I still have all my notes and test books/work packet, hazmat books, if you would want a head start on studying... Hardest part for me was weight and what cars can be next to eachother and how many can be together, Hazmat is never to bad you use your handbook. also the final is open book open notes, but only an hour and a half is giving for well over 100 questions. I got 88% on my first final you need a 90% and the second time I got 97% buddy scored 100%.

Best of luck man. The yard work is a blast

Pay is excellent a safe starting number is about 3500 a month... If you get on extra boards and shit route like Needles Cali the money is HUGE!!!!!!

Well little update to this.. Got declined to go to this training aid for BNSF 6 months ago, but never gave up.

Had an interview in Flagstaff, AZ last week for a conductor position. Got a call Saturday on my way home from Mike L's.:woott:

I will be starting January 16th. :woott:

The single cab wont be moving up there with me, will be put in the garage in PHX and not come out much during the first year or 2.
