LBZ: Anyone have an LBZ and EFILive V2? Need something tested

Just wondering who out there would be willing to do a quick test with their truck for me...should only take about 20 minutes.

Im trying to figure out if the speedo/tach on a pickup truck cluster will still work with an LBZ van calibration flashed into the ECM.

What I would like is if I could email someone an 06-LLY van calibration, and then have them flash it into their LBZ pickup truck, and see if the gauges still work properly.

Now the starter relay is controlled differently with the van calibration, so once you flash the van calibration in there, you'll have to take a piece of wire and manually jumper the starter relay terminals in the fuse box to start the engine. (or jumper the terminals on the starter solenoid, but doing it from the fuse box is easier IMO)

Nothing will get fried or anything (as long as you dont shut off your laptop mid-flash!!), the only thing thats different is the starter relay control wiring. :)

If anyone could help me out with this, that would be great...I would try it myself, but dont have an LBZ local to me, and its not something I can test on the bench here.

Thanks
Ben

Ben I can do this for you but it will be after lunch tomorrow. Look at my sig and make sure my truck will work for this, if it will shoot me the tune. I may need better clarification as far as the two spots to jump across for the relay to get the truck cranked. If someone can take care of you quicker just let me know. [email protected]

Here is the tune, and the picture of the starter terminals to jump...."30" and "87" of the starter relay.

So, turn the key "on", and jumper the starter terminals, and it should start. Obviously make sure the trans is in neutral because this will bypass the neutral-safety. I know that goes without saying, but I figured I would warn you anyways. :)

Be sure to read-out/save your stock tune thats currently in the ECM, as once you flash the van tune in there, it will be gone. So load the van tune in EFILive, FULL-flash the ECM. Make sure the batteries are good and charged, because full-flash on an LBZ takes about 8 minutes.

Then, key ON, jumper the starter terminals, and it should fire up. Check the gauges, and see if they work, starter, tach, etc. Fuel gauge might be off because the van and pickup have different calibrations there but whatever.

Also, if you could take it for a short drive around the block to make sure the transmission shifts normally (I just wanna double check that the van calibration talks to the Allison TCM properly).

Thanks so much guys...whoever tries it first, send me a PM with your address and Ill send you a free BT DieselWorks sticker. :)

Ben

Ben if no one has yet let me know. I'll have an lbz at the shop I've tuned in the next couple days

Sorry, had a last minute business trip come up and had to head down to Cali. If it's not done by this weekend I'll get it knocked out. :thumb:

The gauges all seemed to work just fine. I can't say for sure the trans temp and coolant temp work because it was cold, but speedo and tach do for sure. The only abnormalities I noticed were the alternator wasn't charging and the orange line under the gear display started strobing when I put it in drive.

Hmmmm... what codes came up with the TCM? Does the trans shift ok?

Thanks so much Josh...this is a huge help

I didn't check for any codes, and I only drove it far enough to verify that the speedo worked. I have no idea how it shifted or if it would have shifted. I know it goes into reverse fine and starts off in first.

Alternatively.....have you ever tried flashing a pickup truck calibration into your van???

You'll have to jumper the starter to try a pickup cal in your van.

Basically...Im just trying to figure out if the pickup truck calibration will communicate properly with the T42 TCM/4L80 trans in the van.

Im doing a van-based standalone harness for a customer, and he wants DSP-5 (which obviously isnt supported with vans)....so I was going to re-pin the ECM connectors (basically just the starter relay and brake light switch wiring) for a pickup truck ECM calibration, and go with it. But I just wanna check if the T42 works with an LBZ pickup cal.

But thats also a huge help knowing that the van calibration still has the discrete speedo/tach signal outputs active! (even though the van setup doesnt use those outputs, it picks up speedo info over the databus)

My customer is in Europe (so I want to get everything right the first time), so it would be nice if I could be sure the LBZ pickup cal will work with a T42, so he can have DSP-5. Otherwise Ill just tell him DSP-5 isnt an option, but the discrete speedo/tach outputs do work, so he wont have to worry about using a scan gauge for RPM/speedo.
