When it's cooler out my truck cruises approx 200-300 RPM higher. My truck only does this on the first start of the day, unless it cools right off. I'm sure there's a thread somewhere about it.:eek:

It's weird, It will do this until I shut it off and restart it even on long trips. It has done this since new.
Edit: I can feel what I assume is the converter locking at approx. 50 mph/80 kph. Trans temp is 70 C.

The fuel quantity and idle rpm change with Temperature. The ECM is programmed to limit fuel when cold and increase idle when cold till operating temperature is reached. and the lockup converter also.:thumb:

allison has a self protect mode when it is cold, like the guys said the converter doesn't lock until a certain point and mine seems to hold gears a little longer

Thanks for the input guys. I was just curious since I could drive for 500 miles and the RPM will never come down, but if I drive 5 miles, shut it off and restart it the RPM will be back down to normal. Normally with the tires I have I'm turning 1600 RPM at 70 mph, when this happens it looks like I'm turning approx. 1800 RPM.
