Anyone else ever rip a hitch off...

Well, for those who haven't seen this or have never seen anything like this it was definitely one hell of a ride... I'm glad no one got hurt

We didn't use heavy enough steel for our lower hitch mounting point, it lasted about 4 hooks, but the jarring of the box and pan hitting on this sled twice in one night must have been too much.

The donor truck I bought had the Curt hitch ripped in half, but it was still attached to the truck.

I pulled my 07 from 07-12 with the stock hitch no issues. I tried to do the same with the pull truck (same class) and ripped it off the 2nd hook. It didn't break the welds, it cracked the metal about 1" away from them. I thought I broke the new driveline when it went.

no air shutoff?

Yep, when the hitch came loose it bent and kinked the air shutoff cable and broke the cable on the sled because it couldn't pull the air shutoff push/pull cable...

That's crazy! Ever since I bent my homemade hitch I've always worried about how much our receivers can take pulling the sled.

Spent a ton of time building a draw bar type hitch and my choice of metal was not sufficient. Main cross bar buckled and pulled out of the frame. Tore a bunch of stuff up.

I tried welding a cast 1 1/8" ntpa legal clevis loop to a 2" square steel receiver on my first hitch...the welds cracked due to them cooling too quickly or something, I hadn't noticed because it was last-minute....needless to say at the 270ft mark of the truck's maiden voyage it looked exactly like yours there!

Yea welding cast has to be pre heated and posted heated till its cool, or pre heat it weld it when bury it in sand so it slowly cools, but welding cast to steel doesn't work out to great when your putting that much pressure on it lol

True, and that is why the rules state the second hitch needs to be as strong as the first. Many second hitches are built for looks and not to do the job.
