Anyone can't justify selling their older diesel for a newer truck ?

I paid 23k for my 02 in 05 with 50k on it. It has 380k and have put 20k into it to keep her moving. 3 sets of injectors, 3 trans, rear end, blah blah blah. They aren't cheap period.

I was actually thinking of combining a vacation to the southwest or colorado with searching for a rust free cab, fenders and box. Tow a trailer and bring the parts back. Then rebuild the truck, and eventually qualify for historical plates. :hehe:

I thought about getting a newer used one but I cant justify. Mine has been paid off for years and the notion of another 6-700 payment makes me cringe. My plans are to fix the rust and bed, then drive it until the frame breaks in half. Plus the new 5 series comes out next year and we want one of those really bad.

Same here man.

Looking to find a good bed now and then strip the frame and re coat it during install.

I could give a shit less about resale value. I'll drive it until it can't be fixed anymore which probably won't happen given the aftermarket on these.

I'm at 510+k on my 06 duramax. I live in the salt belt. When I change oil I use a cheap HF spray gun and spray the underside and inside the rockers.
I know some day I'll need to replace body parts but until then I'll keep on driving it.

This past summer I redid the front shocks, bushings, half shafts and ball joints on my 02 LB7. I'm in the process of replacing the 45% injectors with the SAC 45% type injectors, new injection 750 pump from Fleece, SDP 480 twin, new fuel lines, new starter, building a oil cooler & fuel cooler, and anything else I break before I start it.

George is the man. Pulled in at 8am and out by 1pm the morning after hurricane Irene hit.

I put new injectors & a cp3 in the extended cab to keep it going, it has 325k on it so I'm not looking to push it any harder
Last year the cab corners & rockers started to really come apart, rather than replace those I got a deal from a buddy down south on a rust free cab so swapped that
I've been looking for a clean longer frame to swap my cab over & make it an eclb for a work/tow rig
As soon as I hear back from the insurance company I'll start hunting for a replacement for my reg cab, only things that are still good on the truck are the driveline, cab & bed after my tree incident

I have an oklahoma eclb frame. Its a semi roller. Lower Steering and wiring has been robbed and its 2wd but I'm pretty sure the frames are all the same bc theres a bracket where the diff would be. Now i may be wrong but its for sale. Its got a tank, axle, steering box everything u need even a front core support lol 800$ and a trip my way. If not I'm gonna make a square-body lml

I've been weighing the pros and cons of keeping mine after I sell my toy hauler rv. I really won't need the 3/4 ton diesel anymore. But even to get in a new 1/2 ton gasser that isn't a base model is ridiculously expensive.

The 15g I just put into it to get back on the road makes me wonder if an extra 10g to finish it would be worth it or not when I would likely only get 25g for it.

Trans, running board/steps, injectors, new headlights and headlight boxes, and new bumpers are all on the list of needs. 70g to get in a new truck. I guess I can run the old iron for a bit longer. Last of the classics, keep it till I can put collector plates on it lol!

Bought a 15 3500 high country, drove it for 2 weeks. After the second time I had to put def fluid in it I was done owning it. BACK TO THE LB7. Fixed some rot, jacked it up, powdered the wheels, and new tires. Next, it's getting a wrap. Should feel like a new truck.

I'll probably put new block in my LMM go through the transmission 478k on no body rust minor surface on the frame..
My 01 2500 burban bought for $700, drug it home in a chain, with 251, has 278k, Engine needs work looking at swapping the 364/6.0 to a 408 with small heads and camshaft..

Newer vehicle would be nice but not needed

Yes, and the crappy fuel mileage. Granted it has oversize tires, but 12.5 mpg down the highway plus added cost of def? I get 16 mpg from my 02. I drive a lot, between 50-60k a year. I just know I won't love driving it knowing I'm losing money. I love the look, but the economy of owning a newer diesel isn't there anymore.

Traded my 05 lly for a new 2015 Chevy 1500. I had looked at the 15 duramax and looked under the hood to see all that crap cramed under the hood, and I was like how the heck could I ever work on it down the road. So I ended up with a 1500. Big mistake, not only did I not like it, the tranny crapped out at 580 miles. So a year later i traded in my1500 for a 07 lbz with 93k. Lesson I learned was I should have kept my lly and just fixed it as needed.

I should’ve kept my lb7. Don’t get me wrong the lbz is okay but... I had so much heart in my old truck. Kills me every time I pass it.

Bought my truck with 62k on the dial for 28k and some change down in Utah. It was originally from California one owner I'm the 2nd. Has almost 100k on the dial now, and don't think I'll ever trade in for a new one.:thumb:
