I'm always down for a road trip! FYI if you want a wood floor in the basement it would have to be an engineered product. 3/4" hardwood only above grade. I hauled all my equipment once to MN to refinish my mother in laws floors. Why not WI lol. Those of you anywhere near Milwaukee should call Anderson hardwood floors. I know the owners personally and can vouch for their quality and attention to detail. Scott Anderson is a true craftsman and a no BS honest old school buck. His work is top notch. I also know of a few other qualified guys in WI in other areas. Let me know if you need a reference. I know these people because we are all NWFA members but also are among the first 8 companies in the US invited by Bona to form the Bona certified craftsman group. Can't get to this group without extensive testing and evaluations.
That's kinda how I grew up on the farm. Never got video games and could only watch TV for a couple hrs on weekends. I'm not very old, so most of my classmates watched the simpsons every night and had every last video game there was. Guess I made my own fun otherwise haha.

Ya this one was bad. They had cats too and let them piss everywhere, claw up all of the doors, you name it. I wore gloves and a respirator too. Wasn't in that house much without one. only took a few minutes of walking around and the plaster dust would start to kill my sinuses and allergies.
Another benefit of having wood floors! No more carpet to trap allergens!:woott:
If he doesn't want to and you want the Amish guys number let me know. You have to leave a voicemail with his boss at the cabinet shop and he'll refer the message so he can get him to call you back. Sounded like he traveled to stoughton for a few jobs so I don't see why he wouldn't come down by you. He's from the Reedsburg area like many of them.
I will say this though, you will have to plan on being out of the room for a long time. Since he installs on saturday's it takes two to finish the floor so that is one week you have to be out, then they reccomend 2 weeks before any heavy furniture or traffic although DBUSHLB7 may have more insight on this.
Sounds like you can't use true hardwood so I don't know if that would be up his alley either.
Might have to hear some ideas for my upstairs also. I have some stuff im goin to be changin around.
Full cure on Traffic HD anyway is 7 days. 90% cured after 3 days and slow to cure the other 10%. Def wait till full cure to put down area rugs but furniture can be LIFTED AND PLACED after 3 days. You can walk freely on the floors the day after the final coat in socks. I'd keep the shoes off the full week. Then again, Northerners don't wear shoes in the house at all do they?:thumb:
Thats basically what I did. We weren't living in it so It wasn't a big deal to wait.
Shoes up here are usually too full of mud, snow, slush or brown money.
Yea she gets them trimmed often, don't need her ruining the floors. Basset Hounds are pretty laid back dogs though. She's a puppy so she likes running hot laps around the house, but once she gets older she'll be pretty lazy I'm guessing. She already gets sick of running/walking pretty quick.
Upstairs installs are price advantageous to you anyway. Unless you have cardboard and pressed dog shit for a subfloor you don't have to pay anything as far as subfloor install. You're good to go for nail down installs! Do a border or something with a contrasting wood species color. Makes your floor unique compared to Nancy's down the street! And truly border work isn't really that much more money. When deciding on a wood floor just think about durability and your needs. If you're only going to live in a house a short time do laminate or a cheap engineered product. If you're gonna be in your house a long time consider it an investment because REAL hardwood floors add value to your home and make it more marketable when the time comes to sell it.:thumb:
IF you want cheap and don't care about quality, buy Lumber Liquidators. If you want a good floor free of defect with a nice average length, call a wood floor specialist. Many wood floor contractors will sell you flooring a little over their cost but still waaaay below 1$ a sq foot markup usually involved in a sale.
Yeah shes a basset hound just like the one in that movie. My Fiance thinks they're really cute, and I like that they are lazy since neither of us have much time to wear out some of the hyper dogs. I'll probably take her to the farm with me when she gets older but so far the Jack Russel's at the farm are not impressed with her haha. She just wants to play and they don't like that idea yet.

That house would look so outta place up here haha. But that floor looks very nice, not too many people would have the patient to scribe every piece I don't think. I know I get sick of it on my trim.
Lol yes it was an 80s built southwestern style condo.
Here's a few pics of the mother in laws 110 year old home in Detroit Lakes MN. Believe it or not I was only the 2nd or 3rd to refinish the floors. Little more normal for ya lol

The dining room had 3/8" tongue and groove quarter sawn red oak. Back then they didn't have (or believe in fasteners) small enough to nail through the tongue on 3/8" so they top nailed the whole floor!!! Some in the San Fransisco Bay Area may have seen these floors top nailed as well. Nowadays we have special pneumatic cleat nailers for the thinner floors
