I have called around and got several estimates for rebuilding my transmission out of my 01 2500HD starting at 2000 dollars and going up. If I can find the parts I'd like to do it my self. As it sets now I need an input shaft bearing and 1st and R syncronizer and it looks like 2nd and 3rd too. Well that is if I'm thinking right. I just got my 84 K20 running good enough where I can trust it if I need to make a long haul. So time is not a big issue. The Gm parts kid tried his hardest to find me the needed parts and gave me an estimate of $2200 for parts they can still get. Has any one rebuilt one of our transmissions, and is there any specialty tools I will need to do the job? I haven't seen too many parts places that offer parts. Is there any of the site venders that offer ZF parts. Or is there somewhere else I can look for parts?
Thanks for the help. Lance

I have always heard of Dan at Midwest Transmission. I'm not sure of the specific site though. For the quotes on rebuild you can get a reman'd one off ebay for like 1800.

I had a friend that owns an auto repair shop find me a used transmission. low miles and a good price compared to a rebuild. I ended up keeping my old transmission which needs a couple gears and all the synchronizers. I figure that I can send it out to be rebuilt later when I have a bit more extra cash to throw at spare parts. Thanks for the help

Thanks Jc I had seen that and read it through then lost it. But time and tooling didn't allow for me to fix my transmission, mainly time. I don't mind buying the tools to do the job and plan on buying them, but I really couldn't pass up this tranny either way and it never hurts to have a spare.
