Just sold my street/dirt jump bike and picked up a new cross country bike and got to wondering if any one else on the forum rides?

This isn't my bike that I sold but was basically identical to this one. Mine had black seat and wheels.

And this is my new ride. Figured it was time to get rid of the other bike and get something I can ride around on with my kids.

I ride a Specialized Rock Hopper Comp 29er. Great bike, may hit the trails tomorrow evening actually if we dodge the rain.

We have lots of hills here....Speed is your friend, they stay rolling as long as you keep going, bit more effort to start.

Its a bit different than a 26".....Would like to get a 650 though, went to an event last fall and test drove some....sweet bikes.

I saw a Santa Cruz Bronson at the bike shop today which has the 650 (27.5") tires but never rode it as it was above my budget but I like the idea of the 650 tires. I believe it was around $4000 for that particular bike.

Yeah I rode a full carbon bike....think its pricetag was around 9k. Sure was sweet though. If only they could take a kidney or something.

Got mine for about 700. Then upgraded the pedals, new chain when I snapped mine, then recently added a new Rockshox front fork with a bit more travel but is so much smoother. and new comfy seat.

Doesn't take long and the price tag goes up substantially.....gotta say though, they sure have evolved alot since I was a kid. Hell mine has hydraulic disc brakes....never would have imagined that was possible lol

I know what you're saying. My Santa Cruz I just sold was a lot of custom stuff. I built it when I was single and didn't have kids and probably had around $3500 in it. Hell, my front fork was $1800 alone. Definitely doesn't take long to add up. I looked it up and the top of the line Bronson with the carbon frame is just a hair over $10K.

Just picked up a 2014 Specialized Myka Sport 29er for my wife's birthday. While I was at the shop I couldn't resist but to buy myself the '13 Specialized Rockhopper 29.

Went riding today.....damn storms we have had have trashed our trails....trees all over the place now. Think i spent more time carrying the bike than riding

I've been riding to work all this week and already looking at road bikes. I never realized how much it sucks to ride into a head wind. Hopefully a road bike will force me into a more aerodynamic position.

It definitely helps man. I was against road bikes and wearing the spandex shit. I picked up an Orbea Orca. I noticed a difference right away. With the bike being extremely light, less rolling mass with the tires. Being an mtb guy, I couldn't do the stupid spandex. I rode a 50+ miler on a windy day. I said f@ck it and picked up a set spandex shorts and jersey, since I'm going to start training for a tri event. Might as well do it.

Well its slim pickings for mountains around here in Indiana so its more of a trail bike than mountain bike but, the few we do have I try to ride a couple times a year

Any recommendations for a good bike for about $3-400?
I would like to start riding to work.
Thanks!
