Hey guys i just joined the forum and thought i should introduce myself. My name is jake and im 20 yrs old i just bought a 2003 chevy 2500HD so im kinda new at the duramax diesels. My father has a 2002 dodge 3500 with a cummins and some performace stuff added so i know some stuff about diesels and just thought i would buy something different.

But i do have a quick question for you guys. My duramax has 235,000 miles on it but they are all hwy and it has a new turbo and injectors on it. I have been looking at a banks cold air system and the big gun 6 iq chip system with a MBRP 5" exhaust with no muffler...but before i spend all the money on this stuff i would like to be aware of what i should expect to go bad on me in the near future that should be replaced first. If you guys have any advice for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your input:thumb:

Tranfer case pump rub kit, save money for your trans rebuild, whats your plans in the future with your truck? Are you looking to push stock limits?Reason i ask is because owning these trucks and finding out there capabilities is like a drug you start off with a little then a little aint enough so you end up doing more and it seems like it just keeps snowballing from there on!:DSo imo Either trans or efi live instead of banks ,pump rub for sure, maybe turbo, then wait till your motor blows and do a serious build!I say efi first because im a new guy to all this also and if i was to chose any other tuner i think it woulda been a mistake theres soooo much more you can do with efi live then alot of tuners out there the only other one thats decent is the ppe tuner IMO.:thumb:You first good move was joining this forum because there are alot of Smart, helpful, good people on here willing to help you in anyway they can!Do alot of homework before you buy stuff for your truck this way you dont waste money.Anyway good luck with your truck bud:hello:

Thanks for the advice Jrod. I just wanna prolly push stock limits so i have a truck i can mess around with and have fun with a little bit of power, i dont wanna go all 0ut or anything. When is the average time for the transmission to go roughly? I feel kinda stupid for asking, but what is a pump rub?. Ive never heard of the efi live what is it like and what is its advantages for a newer guy like me? Im glad i joined this forum because ive only looked at a few different posts and ive already learned alot about what i should and should not do and also what i can look forward to in the future to rebuild. Thanks for all the help im always glad to learn something new :thumb:

http://youtu.be/afmcNkgKuMY <---pump rub,As far as your trans if you add 85hp or more and dont know how to drive your trans will slip eventually and go into limp mode wich isnt a big deal if it happens there people on here that limped there trans ALot but everytime you do limp it it gets easier and easier to limp until your trans just says"goodnight irene"Pushing your trucks stock limits you will be over 150hp+i think 600-650rwhp your asking for trouble before you grenade your motor(guys,Gals correct me if im wrong on the rwhp)Efi live will save you money in the long run i got mine from idaho rob @ adrenaline truck performance with 5tunes and a dsp5 switch for a really good price!Your prob wondering "well whats a dsp5"?you can switch tunes on the fly ,cool feature but i heard every time you switch between tunes your trans needs to relearn shifting.I got my tunes set like this #1- optimum stock #2-40hp heavy tow #3-60hp light tow/street #4-85 race tune #5 150hp race. Never limped my truck once by the way raced several times with it too on 5(and no i didnt drive it like a P%^sy!)Anyway my trans is out and im planning on bringing it up to George Alexander (Big Dipper) for a build and then once thats done im planning on having rob redo all my tunes and add a max effort tune in:mike:not sure how much more hp i will get it thinks its anyware from 200hp to 250hp or more...?Then maybe a turbo if i dont run out of funds, then after that.... Wait for something to break i guess and go from there

Hey Jake welcome to the site. I'm also a new guy here. This diesel site is killer, you will for sure be pleased with it. I am. It's cool to see another LB7 owner out there. As far as future problems go with your model truck and things going bad it all depends on whether or not you abuse it. The LB7 model trucks are notorious for having serious injector issues. I have read that there are some owners that have had them replaced several times. Hopefully who ever did your replacement did them right the first time. I chose to upgrade my filtration system to prolong my injector life. I'm at 60K right now with no signs of them going. "Knock on wood". As far as you looking for a tuner, I agree with JROD, EFI Live and PPE make a great product, But I have been running a Banks Six-Gun tuner for the last couple of years now and have been very pleased. I run it on level 6 all day and every day and have never had a limp. And I abuse my truck. As far as cold air intake systems go, take a look at S&B, they make a quality product. If your looking for a low cost easy DIY performance mod, remove the intake heater and plug it. It opens up your intake for better air flow. And if your thinking about having more than 400 at the rear its a good idea to start saving for that tranny build. :thumb: Well good luck.

Thanks for all the info guys i sure am learning alot. But im still not 100% sure what a pump rub is. Can you guys tell me what a "limp" is that your transmission does?? And how to tell that your tranny is doing it just so that im aware. Also one last question for you guys....It seems to me that i have some excess soot in my exaust pipe compared to my fathers dodge. Is that something i should try and do something about it? I dont have a chip or anything in my truck yet to make it run rich and i dont believe i have a catalytic converter either so i guess im just not sure if its a good thing or not. Thanks again for all the help guys im really glad i joined this forum because i love learning new things:thumb:;)

Many Duramax owners have experienced the Allison transmission's limp mode after they've modified their engine. This occurs when the computer senses excessive slippage, or if the transmission loses communication with the TCM. In limp mode, no signal is sent to the shift solenoids, and the only forward gear available is Third. Reverse and Neutral are usable, but by only allowing one forward gear to move the truck, the owner has no choice but to limp the vehicle home, or to the nearest shop, hence the name.

Ok that makes a lot of sense now. Do you know on the average how much power you can add before you have a good chance of putting your trans in limp? Are there any warning signs of your trans going limp? And after your trans goes into limp mode and you get it home how do you get it back out of limp mode?

My trans with 90hp tune, 105k miles, limped first shift into OD when i had it tuned

If you only plan on pushing the stock
Turbo, id get the suncoast gmax kit, and precision ml converter, and have a reputable builder rebuild your trans.
