I've sanded/buffed stock headlight back to new but unless you clear them with paint clear, within 8-12months of AZ sun, they will be faded again.

My eBay specials do that too. The ones with the day time driving lights have accumulated some moister. But do you guys think it's worth it to pull them out and dry them then add a little more silicone around the edges?
I will be doing mine when I get a chance. I need to dry them out and reseal them. It won't hurt to try

The moisture could very well be from the bulb gaskets…. I would say most likely actually. The was plenty of silicone on my '05 when I pulled them apart. No way was moisture getting through there. Add some LEDs to clean up the look.

CAPA certified, what a joke, started by the insurance industry to give owners a false sense of high quality parts for the collision industry...

I don't see capa as a joke...I would agree that perhaps the insurance companies may try to abuse any situation to save some $$$$,however capa insures competition in the market place , & gives consumers an alternative to high priced parts.Capa is a non profit organization that represents consumers, parts suppliers, repair shops, parts manufacturers as well as insurance companies...capa certification establishes a benchmark for quality, fit & finish enabling the consumer to purchase oem quality replacement parts @ a fraction of the cost of dealer parts....so as applies to this thread I simply stated that there are alternatives to high priced oem parts w/out quality sacrifice..or you can get cheap E Bay knockoffs & whip out the silicone & clearcoat...lol:thumb:

I'll have to compare that statement to the last 2-3 years researching cancer treatments, surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are the only ways to cure cancer in the good ole USofA as dictated by the FDA and the only treatments, wait, the insurance companies will pay for. The first statement from the majority of people that have asked me about my treatment the shock on the faces when I state yes I had surgery but no chemo or radiation and my prognosis was terminal with two types cancer.

If you read and hear it enough it becomes all you know, believe it to be truth until you question it and I question CAPA approved parts and an organization set up by insurance companies to certify them, the fox watching the hen house comes to mind. Speculation here and would not surprise me if the parts go out separate doors (metaphorically speaking) on a manufacturing facility, one box stamped CAPA CERTIFIED the other door no CAPA STAMP.....

For the non-profit, did you forget that the shareholders of the said non-profit have to be paid, think the NFL yes the NFL and myriad of other entities are non-profit.....

The point I was trying to make, no matter whatever bullshit certification has its still NOT OEM. Yes I do like paying 40% higher prices for OEM parts because I know OEM will last, no I don't care what research says about OEM quality replacements they still aren't OEM so I won't even put them on my truck.

Exactly. That is why I went through the trouble of clearing my factory lights instead of $100 eBay ones. Had I known how much work it took before hand…not sure I would have though. I cleared some '99 GMC lights and they practically fell apart so I thought it was gonna be easy. :spit:

I'm surely not trying to argue here but I can't say I totally agree w/this statement...my original hub assembly's took a dump @ 85k,the oem replacements w/timken bearings have 200k on them....just sayin

You gotta factor in the luck of the draw. I'm still on original hub assemblies at 160k so far. Sometimes parts just wear out prematurely

Comparing quality replacement hard parts to cheap eBay aftermarket parts. That's a whole different deal.

I was never advocating cheap EBay parts....I was talking about certified oem replacement parts...which really means as good or better quality than oem... I guess it just comes down to preference....I've had really good luck w/ headlight assem.,tow mirrors,& some body parts as well....

I'm w/ya on that for sure it's just I had some oem parts that were terrible....sometimes it's just hard to pay the long $$$$ dealer prices when there are high quality aftermarket parts available

How can you tell if the assemblies on the truck are in fact OEM?

I would have to say that there is a specific GM # on there for that part...most of the time if you purchase an aftermarket product it will specify the GM part # it's replacing...I'm getting ready to replace my original marker/driving light assembly cuz their all fogged up & I think I'm gonna go w/1AAuto & see how they are...it appears they got quality aftermarket parts @ reasonable prices...so I guess when I pull the old ones off I see if there is a GM # or tag on there

Opening the headlights isn't too bad. I took out the amber when I did my projector retrofit. Couldn't be happier.
