Cali..
Bought my truck in AZ last year and brought it back to Colorado where I was living.. Anyway since then I moved back to California where I grew up.. When I went into the DMV yesterday to register it in California they told me I would have to pay $1800 in CA sales tax.. Wtf how does that make sense so over all the crap California puts people through..! Ugh..!

So... let me get this straight... you bought the vehicle in Arizona where you undoubtedly paid taxes in Colorado (or Arizona not really sure how car transactions are across state lines). Now you want to register in California as that is now your place of residence, but you did not your truck in the state.

Sounds like you're getting double taxed. You didn't buy it twice.

Texas used to allow the bill of sale thing, they've since figured they would make more money by book value.

Oh and Taylor. Do you have a tax attorney? I would talk to them, pretty sure you don't have to pay tax twice.

But really what you should do is go back to Colorado. Nothing worthwhile in Cali.

Yep gettin double taxed to try and abide by the laws and register it in the state I now reside almost a year after I bought the truck... So stupid how they do that it makes no sense. But at least they don't go by book value since I bought it for 12k under value

Ha I know it sucked when I had to move back the wife and I hate it but we lost our contract with Xcel after our crew struck a 240kv line so we were all laid off and I had to go where the money was/is

I'm def going to get a tax attorney because it's a bunch of bull so hopefully they can help me get around it..

Reg was surprisingly only $295 so I was okay with that but flipped when they gave me my total fees due..

That's crazy they fired you. Must have been an interesting scene though. But yeah you gotta go where the money is.

When I registered my truck they went by book value even though I payed less. And thanks to my tax attorney I got a form from the dmv and got to write off the difference. I'll take whatever I can get from those bastards.

Ya that would be nice if I can get something like that to work. The lady was so damn rude and I looked at her and said do you know how much stuff I could do to my truck with 1700 bucks that made her chuckle a little

Welcome to Kamifornia. Never have understood why they charge you sales tax every time something is resold? Just bought a couple of used Quads, totaling $3,900. They went off the value and we paid $351 in tax.
Don't get me on the registration. My 2001 3500, I pay $500 every year to register it. $382 is for the weight police, due to it being a commercial vehicle.

No one knows what's going on in idaho... we just smile and say "potatoes!", and everyone smiles back, thinking we are a bunch of dumb rednecks. Lol. I paid $58 to register my truck for 2 years. :thumb:
