So I am looking for opinions on clutches for the Allison. I have run both in my transmission. But I am looking opinions from people with more experience.

What clutch pack and why? Is there a better option in your opinion? If so why?

Looking forward to what y'all have to say.

For what purpose? Are you looking at the GPZ stuff from Suncoast, or just the Raybestos GPZ drop in kits? G3s are holding up well from what I see, and can be had for a good price

I've been running g3s in my c2, c3, and c4s. Then alto carbonites in my c1s. Have yet had a issue. A lot of it depends on your power goals.

Mike is the G4's going to help with the no throttle coasting downshift clunk on the 5spd's when using G3's?

That being said I deal with the downshift problem for the better clutches in the C3/C4's

The clunk should go away since we will not use the key hole design with the G4's. There will also be more clutch surface area and the kolene steel plate surface will be better.

So is it looking like G4 will be the hot ticket in a 1000hp+ trans once they are released? Would that be ideal for all clutch packs?

That’s what I’m interested in. Is there a preference for high HP vs. low HP? Towing vs. race truck?

For high HP I would say the Suncoast GPZ setup is very good, did you have a failure with these? Obviously others agree that the G3 is very capable too.

I have installed the Raybestos GPZ drop in kits for tow trucks / wreckers and they are doing well. Power is slightly above factory (actually in a MD behind a DT466). I wouldn't recommend this for a hot street truck, simply because better stuff is available. Not that you can't get it to hold, but all the G3 packs can be bought for a few hundred more.

No I have not had any issues on the one I did a SC GPZ kit on. Been on the G3 train lately. But it seems polarizing.

The G3's will take more power than the GPZ's and live. That's a fact.

It’s not so much the G3 take more power and live it’s that even when they are smoked they don’t deliminate so you get make a few extra passes flaring your way down the track. For any truck 900hp and under Suncoast’s SCZ is great. G4’s may end up being what we have been looking for in C3 because the GPZ wasn’t and niether is the G3. No other clutch is an issue. If the carbonite c3’s didn’t start shedding they were the best power holding and best shifting clutch in my opinion. When you get an older set that doesn’t they last forever. Luckily there are ways to get C3 to live aside from oiling and the clutch used :)
