Hello, new here and new to the duramax world and looking for some help on what you guys think the problem is.

The truck is a 2008 LMM 4x4 and the tranny is making some pretty bad noises. It almost sounds metal on metal and is up by the torque converter area. From what I researched I would assume a broken flex plate......BUT here's the kicker. Once the truck hits 50mph and goes full lock up mode the noise disappears. Mind you think noise is there when you start it up, in every gear and as you accelerate until full lock up.

What do you guys think? Thanks!!!

Pull the spin on filter and check the magnet for metal debris (if it is still there). Also pull the inspection plate and starter as hondarider said and check the flexplate and report back. Is it shifting normal? We need a little more info.

The truck does shift perfectly fine, goes in every gear nice and smooth with no problems, other than it sounding like hell. I did pull the inspection cover and didn't see to much going on in there, didn't look like the torque converter was moving back and fourth or anything like that.

As for pulling everything else off I can't because I'm looking at buying this truck, as the wife has taken over my 08 dodge. I just thought it's very strange the noise goes away as soon as lockup occurs

I can hear it. Sounds like converter clutches rattling. That's why the noise goes away in L/U.
