Allison cooling lines

I'm putting an Allison behind my Cummins ISB. I'm still working out details with the Destroked kit but I have a 271 case and picked up the input to make it work. PI hooked me up with a torque converter. I'm down to keeping the Allison cool. I have a cooler from an LLY.

Now I need to source the cooling lines. I understand the stock lines from a Duramax won't be long enough. Ideas? Sources?

you could always use steel braided lines that way you could if you wanted switch to a big aftermarket cooler. If the line in line out ports are the same as the 4l80e they make adapters to -AN fittings or you can make your own something like this.

no this isnt for a trans, i made them for my LS1 408 stroker fuel lines so i could use the fast fuel rails but you can do the same type of thing for the trans, a hard line is a hard line...

I think our factory lines are 5/8" and have not found a great deal on line that size. I'm looking at hydraulic hose right now but connectors to the trans, rad and cooler are killing me.

I tried to get a set of Kodiak/Top Kick lines but nobody seemed like they wanted to go measure them. I did not look through the forums yet.

Heres an idea....MikeL was replacing the rubber 6spd lines with Russel hose/fittings. Why not just do that, but use longer pieces of hose with the OEM metal lines?

I was considering that. I think by the time I source factory lines (I don't have a set of factory lines) and do the earl's or aero extensions it would cost even more than the hydraulic lines I'm looking at now. This is the last part of the build to source and the big parts put one heluva hurt on my budget.

Be carefull as you are playing with 85 psi lines. Crimped high pressure lines work well but be carefull not to use the 2K and above high pressure lines as they are 1/4 in inside diameter and will overheat your trans. We need close to 5/8 inner diameter to flow properly.

Thanks. So far that has been the best prices. Gates 5/8" ID 1500PSI is still high but factory lines are ridiculous.

Is it possible and/or safe to run to a large cooler and skip the radiator?

I switched the transmission fittings over to AN12 and used hydraullic hose. This gave me 3/4" hoses so that flow would not be restricted. Pictures are available upun request. :)

No.
If you bypass the radiator heat exchanger you will have no cooling below 35 mph. It will overheat the Alli.

That is a nice buggy!! My compliments.

What fittings did you use to go into the Alli? I see 90* brass but I haven't pulled the fittings out of mine yet.

I should be able to do something like that. It looks like I may have found something to adapt those fittings to the radiator as well.

Thanks for the help.

I am trying to remember but I did use two different fittings to fit my clearence. I looked through a stack of receipts and it looks like the following Weatherhead fitting were used: (I just looked...)
# C5515x12x10. This is a 90* fitting used on top. They were about $15 at a local hydraullic shop.
# C5315x12x10 This is a short straight fitting. I made the hose with a 90*.
