Not sure if this is technically being written in the correct place, so anyone feel free to move it if it needs to be.

I'm located in Central Fl and am looking to build my transmission. I don't plan to do anything over the top as far as the engine build goes, but i would like to know the transmission will be happy regardless. Does anyone have any recommendations for a shop I could talk to about the build? I know we have Suncoast themselves in the panhandle, but that's about a 10 hour drive for me. I will do it if i have to, and it would be a great excuse to see a friend in Alabama, but i would like to keep to my area if at all possible in the case that something comes up and i need to take the truck to the shop that does the work.

I've heard of a gentleman by the name of Tim Moye in Tampa. Anyone know this name?

There is a guy named Sonny Baughman in Okeechobee that can build an Allison for you.

Phone number? Has he built a lot of them?

I'll PM it to you. Sonny has been around the forums for a long time, but he isn't really that active anymore. Many of the OG members will remember him as skintback from way back in the day.

Good to know. Not much of anything in this area for trustworthy diesel shops..

Lifts lights and tires!
Anything other than that I wouldn’t trust em
Most all shops in my area Orlando/Daytona are just parts stuffers but can’t even do that right lol

I drove 10hrs and 3 nights in hotel and rental car for a good transmission , then went 9 hrs and 2 nights in a motel in the other direction from my house to get a good tune ! Do not take short cuts in quality work or you will just be doing it again !

I'll vouch for Tim Moye. Be prepared to wait a bit as he stays slammed busy(good shops tend to stay that way), but hes reasoneable, honest, and does good work. He uses pretty much all SUNCOAST as he was using there stuff when nobody knew who they were.

Just got my truck back from Sonny (Skintback) this morning and have only put about 200 miles on it driving from his place to work, and JEEZ if that is any indication of how this transmission is going to feel going forward, I'd say it was definitely worth the downtime and money spent. Sonny was a pleasure to work with and got me set up very well for what i do with the truck. If anyone is in Florida looking to get your transmission built, give this guy a call or message him. Its obvious he loves what he does and he's very knowledgeable and just all around fun to shoot the crap with.

Thank you, Sonny!!!
