Yes that's chris watson,, if it can be done with anything he's the man who could do it.

Cool. I actually just got my Dodge to SAE #3 adapter ring for mine. All I have make is a flexplate, crank hub, and starter spacer. Now that I have the adapter ring and know how thick it is I can design and build those pieces. Since he got his working using my stand-alone setup, I have the advantage of knowing mine will work with no issues :D

Why not put a 68rfe in, like factory? Suncoast seemingly isn't having any issues out of their built 68 in their drag truck, think they are calling it the OM3GA or something.

Was this a manual truck originally?

They are having problems with the 68. Everyone is having problems with the 68. Dodge will be discontinuing it next year.

I know last year at the GAINESVILLE race the SUNCAOST truck was running it again, and when it was supposed to upshift, it would actually downshift or not shift. That 6.7 was screaming a few times because of it.

Money compared to what, an Allison swap? I don't think a stock Allison would live long unless the programming was spot on. Now if the truck is a factory manual, then yeah, no go on the 68.

Last I heard that truck was still running there new updated 48RE as the 68RFE wouldn't shift at full throttle(just revved and held there).

I was under the impression they have had no issues? Obviously I was misled or I misunderstood.

I realize the 68 isn't the greatest. Stock they seem to do ok for the most part.

Where'd you hear they are ditching it? They just got a factory online to produce it and the gasser versions (545RFE and it's replacement, the 66RFE) last year or the year before. Why would they sink all that money into a plant only to kill half it's production? I haven't heard anything about a new trans, and haven't heard all that great about the Aisin, and almost none in a tuned scenario.

That's my biggest b**ch about Dodge, I LOVE the trucks, but the trans is f'kin junk. I've had horrible luck with built 48's @500hp and no racing. Gets old replacing or fixing the same thing...

I was there in bradenton last year when they ditched teh 68 for the 48, and in Gainesville again this year they were having trouble with the 68 again. I also know that one of there employees 6.7L trucks ditched his 68 for a 48 as he couldn't get it to shift either.

I would think they would switch over to the AS68RSC ASIAN trans they use in the cab and chassis models.

I was reading about "stuff", and ended up on this Wikipedia page. Two things caught my attention: First, versions of this 8 speed ZF auto are rated for 738 ft-lbs. Second, Chrysler is buying them from ZF's Saarbrücken, Germany plant while they and ZF start up a new plant in Kokomo, Indiana to start building the transmission. Currently they are being used in the Chrysler 300 V6 and the Challenger v6. It doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility that the torque capacity could be uprated to 800 ft-lbs. Makes you wonder if a version could end up behind the Cummins at some point...

I still think they would be smarter to buy Allison's from Allison, since it is no longer owned by GM.

This trans will never hold up behind a Cummins.

Also I thought the Cummings had the Allison in the 5500 and up ones??

I know the fords you can get them in the F-650 with the Cummings and Allison setup.

No, the 4500 and 5500 dodges (and the 3500 cab/chassis) have the Aisin trans.

Has anyone gotten the 6spd Allison to work behind the 6.7 Cummins yet? I have a buddy who has just built his '12 Dodge and has had a 6spd fully built but they are hung up in the electronics to make it work. I found this old thread and was hoping to find something to point us in the right direction.

Chris Watson is running a 6 speed Ally behind a 6.7 in a 1999 Ford. It uses a slave TPS since the GM Ally TCMs can NOT communicate with the Cummins ECMs. The only downside to the setup is no defuel capability.

A MD Ally TCM will probably work with a Dodge Cummins ECM, but no guarantee. The downside to this is lack of Gm features (i.e. no tow/haul, tap shift, or 4WD low range compensation capability), and it shifts like a MD truck (i.e. much like a GM pickup locked in T/H mode). Many MD cals only give 5 speeds, even with a 6 speed capable trans, so a 6 speed cal would need to be sourced.

There's your two choices. If you want to learn more about running a GM TCM with a slave TPS, go >here<.
