I use pto cable. Most big rig shops carry them in different lengths. There pretty cheap now since everybody went to air shift ptos. IIRC I paid like $30 for a 20' . Very heavy stiff cable, works great. Many people use it. Buy two and run one to the rear and one to the cab. At the shutoff have them pull a common pin.

the ones Dylan and I made are operated by a trailer break away switch that is wired to a relay which operates a linear pull solonoid, pulling the pin on the shut off gate and closing it instantly.

That's pretty slick. We have a trailer break away hooked up through a relay for our electric kill and then the air knife cable is in the cab for us to pull. I got it through GMS. I still have one that ran the length of the truck that I used to have on it. Need to see where that's currently at.

that would work pretty slick. Is it keyed power? that would work nicely. Once the key is off, shutoff is closed for transport. Turn it on and its open. Anytime power is cut shutoff is closed, making the drivers cut off simply turning off the key.

Are more organizations allowing these? i know they were frowned upon by some as they felt a cable was more fool proof.

I don't think they work with the key like you are thinking. Most that use a solenoid pull the pin that is holding air knife open and the springs on the air knife pull it closed.

An electric solenoid would be kind of slow to turn the air knife on and off.

yep, the solenoid pulls and drops the gate. My suggestion is to buy the cheap gate off McMaster and then make your own guillotine, since the one they sell is very thin and sloppy. I massaged the slides and made a nicer, thicker plate and it works pretty nicely.

Lots of places have to be mechanical, i run a boat throttle cable, and got my shut off on blastgates.com. It was kind of hard to find 6".
