Ok sorry for my ignorance. What is the purpose of the big black TURBO DIESEL 6.6 box on top of the engine? I have noticed that a lot of pics show that inlet on the mouthpiece plugged.

Supposed to be a "RESONATOR" to reduce intake/compressor wheel noise. Doesn't serve much of a purpose other than getting in the way.

Had a plug in mine for almost a year (plugged the resonator and left it in place), just recently removed the plug, what a relief a lot less noise in the cab from the annoying turbo whine....:woott:

Not sure about getting old... My grandfather keeps wanting to take mufflers off of stuff. He wouldn't let me put a muffler back on his 2002 24valve.

Loud is not always fast and I have been like that since I was 15, Alka-Seltzer quiet and fast, excessive loud music annoys me although in High School I saw KISS, Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Journey, Aero Smith and then some in concert and my ears/head rang for days to a week afterwards. Operating heavy equipment drives me bonkers, execessively loud vehicles make me want to reach out and choke someone who so desperately needs it or not, oops almost forgot the obligatory...LOL

I could tell no diffence in sound with it there or not. Now add a second turbo to the passenger side of the engine bay and you will get a LOT more intake noise. :D

I cant stand excessively loud music either. Nothing more annoying than a live band at a restaurant thats cranked up so loud you cant talk... My truck has dual exhaust and a muffler, its far from loud! I didn't mean to offend you with what I said, it was a honest joke...
