Did GM make BLACK Air Dams for 01-02 chevys? I know they did with 03 and up models.

I would paint mine, but I've got a friend who is painting one right now, and said its been a pain in the ass. So I figured I would see if GM made black ones or not, DOES ANYBODY KNOW?

Not that I know of. The '03-'05 air dams were gray, they went to black in '06. When they went to the black ones on the '06+, all GM replacements for the '03-'05s became black...thats how I got mine.

That being said...did you look for a black one off a tahoe? I don't recall if the black z71 tahoes had a black air dam or not.

I want the same original one i have now, just black.

I was going to paint it, but my buddy is having problems painting his, so I didnt want to risk screwing up. I thought GM might have made black 01/02 air dams

Mine was a dark grey and drove my crazy. That was the first thing i did when I bought my truck from my father. I never cared to the black plastic look so I had all of the black plastic painted. Its been about two years now. I hear they can be a pita to paint if not prepped right so I just sucked it up and opened the wallet to my body shop. It came out great and has held up like the day I picked it up from them so that may be your best bet.

Yea thats what I was thinking. The guys over at Diesel place say I should get the 06' LTZ Suburban air dam, although it is Black and looks nice, I'm not feeling the round "Z71" fog lamps. Even though the 01-02 Fog lamps are crap, I still prefer the original fogs over the "Z71" fogs.

If there is a body supply shop in the area, get a small can of wax and grease remover. Use lots of lint free rags. Then see if you can find an "Adhesion promoter" for plastic. I worked for a couple of guys that did their own paint work and the adhesion promoter softens the plastic slightly so that the paint will stick. I think they used PPG products, but House of Kolor makes a lot of stuff also now.
