Alright I am looking for a good air compressor that I can use around my garage. Yes I know my best bet would be to buy something with a 3 phase motor and 100+ gallons but I don't have the space.

Any suggestions?

If you got the coin a screw compressor is the way to go they have tiny tanks because they don't need to store lots of air since they are constant duty.

I have a 5 horse 75gal craftsman that's been great to me for 10 years the only problem is it could use a smidge more HP to keep the tank full when running a cutoff wheel or da for long periods of time.

Do you have the space outside? Build a small shed on the backside of the garage and plumb it in. Makes it really nice not having to listen to it cycle full volume.

Quincy QT-54. Less than $1500, made in the U.S.A., and it has a 50,000 hour advertised pump life, vs 8,000 hours for a comparable IR. For home/small shop use, I don't believe you can beat it.

Good old mn Caire comps can be had reasonable.
Northern tool use to have a nice 2 stage and single stage there own brand for reasonable.
Do not buy a porter cable!! Ingersolrand have gotten much cheaper unless you buy the high end models.
Most important before you buy decide if you are ever going to sandblast with it or not then pick one.

For cheap compressors I have had good luck with Cambell Hausfeld compressors, some of which are re-branded Kobalt. New shop I am buying has a Quincy 30 and a Quincy 50 rotary in it so when my old 80 gallon CH finally gave up after 6 years of neglect and abuse in a full time shop I bought a little Kobalt 30 gallon to get me by until the move and bring to the house if it lives. So far it's been doing fine running the shop, including filling the 80 gallon tank and running longer than it should have to.

Bought this rebuilt for $800, it is an Oholiab made in Israel part for part identical to the older Ingersoll&Rand T-30 pump, true 100% duty cycle 5hp, 17cfm, Has not missed a lick since 1990. Couple things about install and compressors, adequate power supply for the motor, if you can pipe a mimimum of 20 ft. black, galvanized copper pipe to cool and remove moisture from the air, drip legs and T off the lines correctly, sit the compressor on isolation pads and NEVER use PVC, ABS, etc. for piping it becomes shrapnel when it fails. I had to add cooling fans above the compressor so I could install tight against the wall as the compressor pulley/fan is useless. I did find a use for the filter I removed from my Volant CAI gasser (Donaldson) it clamps directy to the outside of the Solberg filter silencer housing, about 100 times better filtration than the donut sized original
